About these books:
  • These are part of The Three-Body Problem Series (4 total books).
  • The Dark Forest: Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion-in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy. Only the human mind remains a secret. This is the motivation for the Wallfacer Project, a daring plan that grants four men enormous resources to design secret strategies, hidden through deceit and misdirection from Earth and Trisolaris alike. Three of the Wallfacers are influential statesmen and scientists, but the fourth is a total unknown. Luo Ji, an unambitious Chinese astronomer and sociologist, is baffled by his new status. All he knows is that he's the one Wallfacer that Trisolaris wants dead.
  • Death's End: Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to co-exist peacefully as equals without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

You're bugs!
I'm Chinese American and I couldn't put book 1 down. It was really interesting reading about events my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles lived through personally. My parents were just young enough to avoid all the negative fallout, get an education, and build a life in the US.

Yeah, I read these back to back and that didn't do Project Hail Mary any favors.

I'm not sure I'd recommend 3 Body Problem to everyone, but I can universally recommend that any fans of The Martian just re-read that book instead of Project Hail Mary.

You're both crazy. This book is so long winded just to get to the end and have a completely rushed ending. If you like to have some semblance of a conclusion to a giant 3 book series then this is not it. Project Hail Mary was everything I wish these books ended up being…
"Earth got warmer so I guess it's saved." was the ending for Project Hail Mary, not that much of a better conclusion.

That's not entirely accurate. They dealt with the issue of it getting colder. I didn't enjoy the ending as it could have been better but it could have ended much worse.

Great ideas, writing and characters were very difficult to connect with for me, though it got better at some point in book two.

Definitely pick these up if you made it through the first one. The ideas in the next ones are just as good or better and the storyline/characters were more interesting at least to me.

If you made it through the first book, congratulations!

It starts getting really good in this one.

The best sci Fi series I've read for a long long time. Good to read before watching the Netflix series

None of my friends, all sci-fi heads, that I've recommended the series to have finished the first book. Frown

I wouldn't recommend. The concept is great, but the writing is absolutely terrible. There's a lot of times where the author seems so excited about his ideas that he just directly explains things instead of working it properly into the story. I did finish the series, but stretches of it were a slog. I'm optimistic about the show, because as I said, the concept is great. It's a lot like Foundation, where the show builds on a good idea, but honestly the books are weak

These are amazing. But the first book took awhile to tell you what it was about. Be warned

First two are all timers for me. 3rd book was meh. Haven't read the 4th. I believe it was originally a fanfic that the author blessed.

Probably the best sci-fi series I've read. It's a hard read given it's translated, but still awesome.

I also like Project Hail Mary. Also The Money Pit

I finished first two books and I just couldn't continue on. Very bland. Tried too hard and tried to be smart, and in the end, you can cut 3/4 of the utterly pointless dialog and inner delimna that is repeated 100 times. Cultural thing, I know (my wife is Chinese and thats pretty much how most of their dramas are). Never understood why it got popular, and this sort of thing was right up my alley.

You don't have smart friends. This is a series for the high IQ.

It's mostly for people who can withstand the bizarre sentence structure and writing style, and then be rewarded with the immense scope across all three books

All the scientific concepts are absolutely spoon fed so I don't think high IQ is a requirement...unless you're joking?
