Strongly recommend against the Nexts. They're widely reviled as poorly-made and depressingly prone to leaking and other unpleasantness.

I recommend staying away from Vertuo... as a fellow slickdealer, it's good to know that Nespresso is the only provider of these pods... no off-brand. So you're stuck buying their - while good - expensive pods. The only alternative are Starbucks branded, but that is simply branding and still Nespre$$o.

Vertuo capsules are most expensive- from 80c to a $1. You get cheap machine but have to buy expensive coffee. I would recommend machines that use classic nespresso capsules.

I have the white and black versions of the vert plus. The black one is perfect...smooth and quiet. My white one vibrates like a bad tire on the highway...but it still makes great coffee.

So they both can make espresso and coffee, but are different machines? The Next includes a coffee sample kit, but the Plus doesn't.

Seconding this. We have the Next and we're already on the replacement and that one is giving us issues as well.

So after our first one began leaking on our counter top, Nespresso sent us a refurbished replacement at no cost. So far it's been good and no issues yet. Been using it on and off for about year, so maybe like once a week at most.

I've had two Nespresso VertuoPlus and I cannot recommend them. The first one had an issue where it refused to recognize it was primed. There's a sensor that either goes bad or cannot be triggered due to some circumstance engineers didn't foresee. The second one had bad QC. The case rattled like crazy and sounded like a jet taking off when making coffee.

We then switched to the VertuNext. It's been a good machine but it's more manual so you have to press the lever to the side to puncture the pod and begin. If you have limited hand mobility, it could see it being a problem and why you would want the more automatic VertuoPlus.

Watch for Aldi to sell their Ambiano pod machine again. It was $89.99 new last time. I got 2 when they reduced the price to $19.99 for clearance. They work great.

I think it makes fine cup of coffee at third of what it costs at my office. I do agree that you should definitely know you're locked into an ecosystem because the patents on the Vertuo line are exclusive for a long time.

I will say that Nepresso runs deals but you usually have to order at least 7 sleeves (10x pods a sleeve) to get 1 or 2 free sleeves depending on the promo. That's usually when we order.

A friend gave me his VertuoPlus since his wife didn't like the coffee it made. To be clear, it makes excellent coffee and the flavors Nespressor puts out are fantastic. After my second order of pods came in, I sent my friend a picture of the order with the caption that his "free" coffee maker is costing me a fortune. I also got a Phillips 5200 automatic from Costco when it was on sale, and I think I'll break even on the cost within a year.

Nespresso at the office, Phillips at home.

I am on my 2nd Next and bought a 3rd for my daughter. The first one made it just over 2 years before it sprung a leak. My second is at 2.5 years. I have paid between $109 for new each time during Amazon Prime days. The biggest difference between the two machines is that the Next will let you use the largest pod that they make.

Not to mention the original pods are a lot better in taste and cheaper. Vertuo is honestly a downgrade, the pods spin to create more crema without actually extracting at the right pressure and grind for optimal flavor extraction. It's weak coffee with a lot of foam, no better than if you put coffee into a blender.

I normally brew my own espresso through a Breville but I have access to both the original and Vertuo espresso. The original Nespresso line is pretty decent if you don't want to invest up front into a real espresso machine and grinder. Just beware that the pods typically only have 5-7 g of coffee.
