I bought these in a deal last summer-

Originally, they were fairly nice. I wanted them to be brighter- they have never been as bright as they show in the photos.

Now, the batteries seem to be going on them. They are usually off by midnight.

Will they even last a couple of summers? I've used cheap solar lights and they become brittle and disintegrate after some time.

winter sun will be weaker everywhere, it should be a mix of degradation and less light.

Well there's no winning here with these lights then. One season of use is not ideal, having to screw them in every year to replace broken ones after 5 years will make all the decking look like swiss cheese. Sure i can glue them down, now i'm dealing with them falling off, glue residue, or chunks of paint or wood missing from the railings.

I know some people replace the batteries but do I have to get special type of AAA battery? Beyond "rechargeable" I am not sure what to look for.

If you don't like these, then Id recommend the round ones from Costco or Sam's club. They screw into a square base. They're really bright and last long.

Brand? Link? A crumb of context?

These were at Costco or Sam's club, I can't remember. I would wait until it comes back again.
