I believe one complaint i saw in other posts was the lack of a numpad on a 16'"

That plastic piece that holds the hinge screw is very fragile. Left hinge on my Inspiron 15 7559 is still broken. I've tried to fix it but no luck. Now I have to replace the whole bottom case to fix it. Later, I discovered that this is a well-known issue with Inspiron models.

Any good prevention tips?

I've read somewhere that loosening hinges up a bit might prevent it

Ok. here is the bad news.. I got my Dell 16 inch 2 in 1 laptop recently and the lid tension was too tight, which is very obvious that over the period of time the metal hinge attached to the display frame will break (no matter how gentle you are going to be with it). So i did watch couple of youtube videos to relax the hinge mechanism a little bit loose by adjusting the tension. With lot of excitement i opened the laptop only to find out that the black bracket is completely blended with the display frame and cannot be removed to adjust the tension of these hinges... So that one life saving option is also down the drain and there is no way for users to perform any preventive adjustment.. except to keep the lid open all the time. Worst part is , mine is touch screen and i dont want to risk it .. Here you go dell.. have your machine back..

2286 reviews on Dell's site and only 4 reviews mention Hinge and nothing serious. So I'm dubious about the Hinge problem.

I've had an Inspiron 14 2 in 1 for over a year with no Hinge issue. I'm no Dell shill and I'm not promoting them or this laptop.

My issue with this laptop is the memory is soldered on. I'm damn hate when companies do this. But this price point is good and it has a backlkt keyboard, aluminum body and good size screen. I'm tempted.

This has 8g ram and it's soldered so you can't upgrade. It's also ddr4.

This is not a better deal, IMO

I'm strictly using it watch Netflix and Youtube videos. will 8GB slow things down considerably?
