Great deal if you're in the market. Lowest used price on the Verb is this price
Why pay more for an Ultra:

-Belly carve
-Noiseless pickups
-Compound radius neck profile
-Heel carve
-double binding
-locking tuners
-At this price you're at the Prof 2 model

Why not to pay more for an Ultra:
-Doesn't have vintage bridges
-Noiseless pickups are love or hate them
-Lots of people feel the above pros features gets away from a traditionally tele

I'm looking to offload my strat pro 2 and get this. Not super in love with the finish but they'll never have texas tea on sale. I'd say this is the next best color.

The necks on these feel great but I still think noiseless single coil pickups are lifeless compared to the real thing. Nothing wrong with a little 60Hz cycle hum.

Buy the Player Tele for $529 instead and then throw a pair of Bootstrap Palo Duro pickups in ($50). You still come in at under $600 and it'll sound better than this Ultra.

"A little 60hz cycle hum" can be a huge issue for gigging musicians that play in suboptimal environments (ie: 90 percent of gigging musicians). These are a nice approximation of a vintage tone with greatly reduced hum. No, they're not strictly vintage, but for a lot of people, these are a huge plus. If you're a bedroom player and that's it, then I would agree that paying more for these doesn't make a lot of sense.

As mentioned already, specs. For me, what's makes these great is the playability. The heel carve makes upper fret access easier, the compound radius board is VERY nice to play on, and the pickups are reasonably silent. Additionally, this line all has the S1 switching which in the case if the tele allows you to switch between series and parallel for the two pickups, giving you additional tonal flexibility. They're very solid guitars and generally play great out of the box.

I have a fender ultra jazz V. Probably my favorite bass for fingerstyle. Yeah its a bass, but I imagine the entire Ultra line is incredible. Build quality is fantastic, best of any of my basses. Only my bassmods is untouchable for slap. This is a great price too.

I agree with you about this guitar but we need to emphasize "generally play great out of the box" being a pro for guitars over $1500 (regular price>$2000) nowadays makes me sad.

True enough statement. Any brand that's mass produced like this is doing to have some bad apples. Some (traditionally speaking, Gibson for instance, though they've gotten better the past 2 years) worse than others. In my experience, Fenders are generally very good out of the box, especially at this price point. This could be considered a con of buying from Adorama: no setup or inspection, compared to a place like sweetwater that at least seemingly does a spot check. That being said, I've bought a few fenders from Adorama and have had zero issues.

Thank you for this post. I read a few comments on that very thing. Will keep an eye out when the Pros go back on sale.

Noiseless single coils came out in 1998. Hendrix, SRV, Knopfler, Frusciante, Clapton, Gilmour, etc., all gigged with non-stacked single coils for many years before they were introduced and those mentioned that are still alive continue to do so without any complaints of 60 cycle hum from the audience. It's usually buried in the mix anyway.
