For those who don't know:

Yes, this can be used in any vehicle, not just trucks and SUVs. Pretend it's like any other motor oil.

The specific difference in this formula when it launched: This is the classic Mobil 1 formula plus 10% extra "sludge-fighting" detergents for "hardworking engines." That's direct from Mobil several years ago.

Since then they have apparently changed the formula slightly. An excerpt from the current PDS: "This technologically advanced motor oil is formulated with high-performance base oils and additives that help prevent deposit formation. Mobil 1 Truck & SUV contains synthetic oil molecules that reduces friction, giving your engine 20% more sludge fighting power**. Mobil 1 Truck & SUV full-synthetic motor oil is also 10% more resistant to oil breakdown***" This is comparing it to regular Mobil 1.

tl;dr: It's like regular Mobil 1 on steroids, but not as good as Mobil 1 Extended Performance. But if you're trying to "clean" a neglected engine, this is arguably their best candidate.

Hate paying high prices for oil change these days but is this worth it? My SUV needs 6 quarts, plus cost of filter and labor.

Well said. Note that the ability to fight oil breakdown gives more temp control, a benefit that's needed when towing/hauling and you're kicking temps higher than normal driving.

-M1 team. Sounds like you're ready for a job here.

Also well said.

If I wasn't too busy pouring this stuff under hoods and doing everything I can to put the likes of Take $500 and Iffy Lube out of business, I'd love to. So sick of the predatory practices and incompetence, but I'm only one man...

*was in my case.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Word of the wise, use it as a reference and avoid engaging in the forums like the plague. There were only a handful of truly brilliant people on there anyway, namely clinebarger and MolaKule. Their (BITOG) moderation team is a joke. Astro14 was the only one with his head screwed on straight. The literal nameless one (a letter and numbers) was a power-tripping keyboard warrior.

I started doing all 4 of our vehicles during COVID and I haven't looked back. Cheaper and I know it's done right.

Edit: I forgot to mention I use Kirkland and Amazon basics 0w-20 most of the time.

Thanks for the explanation above. I assumed this was just marketing but apparently it is slightly different. That said, why wouldn't every car want to use this one? Or is it that this oil normally sells for a slightly higher price and therefore many wouldn't choose to pay for the extra "sludge fighting power" detergents if they don't need it?

And what about the High Mileage synthetic from Mobil 1? Can you speak on that in how it compares between this and Extended Performance?
