I think. He's referring to the fact you're always better off having a "back haul" ie a wire to the extender / ap.

It used to matter a lot more in the oast, but I'll be honest,I've used the Deco M5 and they are flawless. They also include virus / mail ware / virus protection for the life of the unit, for what it's worth.

They are great.

Has parental controls, you can prioritize devices, block other devices, setup a safe guest network, and many others.

Totaly worth the money. For the extra 50 bucks, I think it's a much better value as these have a really large range.

You can also control the whole setup through an app on your phone.

If I remember correctly you can also use these as a bridge to connect a non-WiFi device to your network without having to run an Ethernet cable or other wired solution.

Mind saying why you should not use an extender?

Perfect timing! I had one of these a few years ago (before I had an Archer router) and could never get it to work. As we've added more to a far upstairs room, I am noticing it is quite a dead zone. Can't find my old one, so gonna give this a shot again.

I recently added a tp link WiFi 6E WiFi extender and it's been very stable and easy to connect using OneMesh. My devices switch over to the Extender with no issue. I have not noticed any problems with HomeKit devices either which I was very concerned about.

We have about 50 or devices connected to the network and been solid for the last month since setting up. I work from home and have to have reliable internet so I am was very careful when I migrated to the new network and kept my other router on standby if needed. Hope this helps 😁

My uncle has one camera that can't get signal outside of his house.

He is too lazy to run Ethernet to that end and I don't feel like doing it for him. Is it ok to get one of these and use the ssid for cameras only?

Everything inside the house can just use the regular wifi network. I feel the house is blocking RF signals, so having this extender could be good.

I know bandwidth is cut in half but for cameras hopefully it's good.

Because using a mesh wi-fi system is WAY WAY better. With an extender you'll have a second wifi network to deal with and your portable devices will keep having to switch between the two networks. Can cause interruptions in Skype and other apps. If you game over an extender there will be some lag which is never helpful.

Had one of these set up for a family member so they could use their old reliable color laser multifunction machine without having to run ethernet. For that purpose it was fine but I could see it drop the signal then re-establish multiple times a day. Not ideal but then again they do not print a ton of pages. When I moved them to a wi-fi mesh network the difference was night and day compared to using this low powered extender.

TP-Link has a habit of abandoning these older products with no future updates. Which means you end up tossing them out when a simple firmware update would've fixed a troublesome bug or a serious security vulnerability. TP-link has many older products which are now vulnerable to various viruses or rather worms which infect thier inexpensive devices. At that point there's a member of a bot net on your local network and lord only knows what the humans running the bot net will use it for, but probably nothing good!

You should never use a Wi-Fi extender if you don't have to, but in some cases you may have no choice. In that case, I've been very happy with the TP-Link extenders.

General latency is poor the more nodes you add to your home network. But these are definitely necessary when you have poor reception due to architecture or a weak router. And slow Wi-Fi is better than no Wi-Fi at all. But if you can pick up one of the mesh WiFi products that other manufacturers make for ~$50, you'll be happier. Frankly, the ethernet port in these extenders is nice if you want to network an older printer or security camera that doesn't have WIFi built in.

I purchased this a year ago for my camera that located in a bit isolated area of my house and it works fine, no connection issues. I would not use it for main devices though, as it may cut the speed for up to 30-50% in my case

I used to use TP link extenders and powerline adapters but finally made the switch to the TP-Link Deco mesh WiFi and I'm way happier. One Deco downstairs and one upstairs is all I need for complete coverage. I highly recommend spending the extra money to invest in a mesh system if you can.

Had a upstairs bathroom as far from my router as you can get that had spotty Alexa reception. Installed this extender and never looked back. Love me some TP-Link.

Any reason why you couldn't use this (and it's ethernet port) to connect a non wifi device to a phone hotspot?
