If you do pick it up, I have to emphasize that you NEED to train your combat skills at least a little with the guy in the main town (I forget the name) or you will die every time you get in a fight. I tried to figure out how to train my skills otherwise and it was just impossible to beat anyone during every encounter I had. I was avoiding all the quests with fights up to that point because of that and missing out on a lot of the game.
