A 1lb bag of lawn fertilizer? This size covers about 5k sqft which is typical.

Best practice is to de-thatch, mow low, aerate, and then seed. Cover seed with peat or manure. Keep the seed moist. Use a timer for three spays a day if you can. I have had great luck in one year spot treating weeds with the weed AND crabgrass killer. This spring I'll be able to use a crabgrass preventer fertilizer. Which is not recommended if you are planting seed. Good luck to you.

Be careful on timing! Some grasses work better in the spring (I use Bermuda sod); you aerate that in the spring, but grasses like fescue are better to aerate in the fall, so the seeds can get better roots before the heat of summer. I just want back the days of spring bags for $9.99 on Turfbuilder again! Even the generic store brands are up there in price!

Any harm in using this as a normal fert if moss is not an issue? This price is cheaper than the standard turf guard which is $22 currently.

No issue at all. In fact, the iron in this will help green up the lawn as well.
