Not OP, but once you add the 5.0ah battery pack to the cart, it drops the price of the sander to $65.16 and the battery to $93.84. Total comes to $159 before tax.

Add the 'free' battery (top right of listing screen) and you get the sander and battery for $159. This prorates the items at $65.16 for the sander and $93.84 for the battery. If you don't want both items, you can return one and keep the other at the prorated price.

I have the DeWalt orbital sander. I'm not a woodworker outside of DIY projects. What is the benefit of a sheet sander over the orbital? Only thing I can think of/read about is the sheet sander can get corners better because of the square shape.

In my limited experience, i can get more aggressive with the sheet sander since it doesn't rely on hook and loop/velcro to hold the sand paper on. If you apply pressure to the orbital sander while sanding, it's easy to melt the Velcro hooks and your sandpaper goes flying off (and eventually need to buy a new pad for the sander).

It's not just better but it can get corners where's round won't be able to go in the corners at all (not huge issue since triangular pad for multitool will do corners even better). From my experience with square if it's not orbital it doesn't create circular marks on wood grain because it goes back and forth instead of circular motion but not sure if all square ones work that way.

One draw back to this over the orbital is this has limited battery space. The orbital does not have battery size constraints and I can use my flex volt batteries. Which when you're doing a lot of sanding these will go through batteries quickly. Plus the added weight of the bigger battery helps for aggressive sanding.

Never done a hack before. Can you initiate the battery return online or do you need to go into a store? If online works, then Home Depot doesn't really care about these "hacks"?

Beyond what's already been mentioned, sandpaper can be a lot cheaper. Buy full sheets and cut it yourself. The sander comes with a punch to make the dust extraction holes.

Easiest way is set up pickup at two different stores and only pick one up.
