1st they will return store credit, which cannot be used online. Different from how you paid as a gift card can be used online.
2nd in a mixed-tender transaction where some portion is paid with a gift card and the rest in cash or credit, they will refund store credit first (as above), then cash/credit if you don't return everything you bought.
IMO this is terrible policy and am not aware or any other company that does this.
Net/net, an extra 5% for this hassle (over my Lowe's card savings) isn't worth it to me.
