While it is slow in an absolute sense, it's actually as fast as microSD can go (UHS-I) without adding additional pins (UHS-II), and microSD slots that support UHS-II are extremely rare.

In fact, reaching 170 MB/s required SanDisk to operate out-of-spec: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_card#UHS-I

The other issue is that there's a substantial price jump for the increased speed. From my cursory look at prices, it appears that 1TB UHS-II SD (full size SD. not micro SD) cards are around $300.

I can't actually find any evidence that any company makes a 1TB UHS-II micro SD card, so this might be pretty close to as fast as you can get, even if you're willing to pay a lot more. Unless your device can use a full size SD card instead, then you can go faster (for quite a bit more money).

Research that use case first. It could work to store photos but for most things it's a terrible idea. Slow and unreliable.

Many U3s, which are considered to be fast enough for 4K video recording are rated at 200MB/s. So how is this so ssssssssssssssssssssssssssllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooowwwww at 190MB/s?
