Look at the price tag. It has usb c charging which is pretty good for 269
But its also refurb and has a garbage screen on top of the garbage CPU. It's cheap because its bad. Fine for a kid to browse the internet, but not something anyone would enjoy using.

can someone explain why Acer actually makes one laptop in three versions and, depending on how much they worsened the specs, they call it Aspire 1, Aspire 3, Aspire 5? Shouldn't the top line and the cheapest products differ in at least something other than the backlight keyboard and the RAM slot?

hate these AMD naming schemes. This is a 6000 series.

$60 more for a moderately more powerful CPU than the R3-7320U version. (https://slickdeals.net/f/17275540-acer-aspire-3-cert-refurb-15-6-fhd-ips-ryzen-3-7320u-8gb-lpddr5-128gb-ssd-202-39). Both have the same weak iGPU Radeon 610M.

Passmark CPU (Single-Core)
Ryzen 5 7520U +6%

Ryzen 3 7320U
2399
Passmark CPU (Multi-Core)
Ryzen 5 7520U +5%

Ryzen 3 7320U

Not for gaming but office tasks, 16GB RAM (both not upgradable) of this will ensure snappiness in multi-tasking, and larger 512GB SSD will likely save you the hassle of storage upgrade.

The USB-C charging capability is important for many users, which is rare to find in windows laptops at this price.
So is the extra $60 worth the extra RAM and storage?

Yes, I believe R3-7320U is just a clocked down version of R5-7520U. They share the same design but different multiplier.
That's why the larger memory and storage here are more important if someone decide to take this one.
I have a 8GB laptop with windows 11 installed, the RAM is usually 80-90% utilized…
On the other extreme, I have 64GB in my laptop, but almost never use over 32GB. 32GB is probably a good amount for a laptop for office use, as the 64GB gives off more heat and less battery time, when I almost never go beyond 32GB anyways. I also have a workstation for any heavy use apps or VMs.

It really depends on your use cases. You are actually getting what you are paying for the extra, i.e. usually $20 for a 8GB stick and 500GB SSD costs around $40.
If you are on a really tight budget and just need a cheap windows machine for occasional light works, the $202 (R3-7320U/8GB/128GB) would be just fine most of the time, especially if you don't need the extra and fast storage for docs/media. However, you would only have around 75GB left for other programs after windows initial set up.

One more imporant point to note, according to Acer official specs pages:
R3-7320U version (Part Number: NX.KJBAA.001 [acer.com]) has a non-touch display
R5-7520U version (Part Number: NX.KHDAA.004 [acer.com]) has a touch display

This might further justify the $60 price difference between the two. I personally recommend the R5 version here.

I believe 16GB should be sufficient for office use for most users. My business thankpad only has 16GB installed. So far, the highest usage has never exceeded 12GB, with several large spreadsheets, 10+ Chrome tabs, powerpoint slides opened and zoom meeting in progress.

At this price point, what else can you expect? A full on gaming rig at 270? It does just fine at this price point. Works for most office and study use cases. The screen is fine in door.

I had good luck with refurbished items from this Acer ebay store. It has warranty for an extra 2 years. For those with tight budgets and need some light compute power, this thing does more than enough for them.

isn't the 7520U really mediocre?
It is. It can barely even emulate God of War 2 on PS2 @ 720p. Gran Turismo also 720p max.

Forza Horizon 4 @ 720p only. If you want 1080p you will get around 58fps max on lowest settings.

Would this perform decently as a Plex server (not client)? Better than the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 does as a server?

Mainly looking to be able to freely rewind and fast forward 1080p or higher videos without crashing. Thanks.

How is the battery life. Thanks.
Not currently my main computer, so can't say. After reinstalling windows and setting it up, I feel like it should do 6+ hours.

No info on weight anywhere so this thing must be a boat anchor. 6-8 lbs minimum.
