This is nothing new, its been going for 6+ months but they changed it to points versus expiring coupons. Also the ink rewards have been cut in half offering only $20 in points versus $40
This new points system basically is a 50% reduction from the old rewards plan with the exception of this battery promotion giving 1000 points instead of 500 points ($2.50).

I usually just recycle like a single AA or AAA battery a month
Last year they ran a recycling promo for 3 months that gave $10 credit for tech (one item per month). At the time, I didn't need anything so I redeemed my $30 in credits for school supplies that I donated to a school program. I wish they would bring that promo back.
I had nothing but problems with that. They dont go bu the date it was delivered to them via the ups tracking, they go by when the open the box. If they dont get to it before the month , they will count it for the next month. If you dont know know when they open the box and say you ship March recycling in on the first of march, you will loose those credits. Also in the past, I took pictures of the shipping lable next to the open shipping box that had neatly stacked and countable cartridges in plain view only to get credit for a few of the 20 cartridges I mailed in.

Unless something has drasticaly changed, I recomend bringing them to the store. At the counter choose both e-mail and printed reciepts so you KNOW they are not going to say they never got it and if they do you have proof.

I stopped shipping the recycling because it is too much a pain in the arse to call chat with them in corecting their error.

My local store stopped recycling batteries. Manager said they had to individually wrap each dead one. Too much work for them.

I just looked at my rewards. The one $5 expiring February got changed to April

Quote from beowulf7 :
I was also confused by it, but in the OP, it says:
"Single-use alkaline NEW"

I was wondering why someone would recycle batteries that are sealed in the original packaging. I'll take my dead batteries and space them out one per month and see what my local Staples says, at least for the first one.

That sucks, some good news is that pens, pencil, crayons are also part of the tech list, buy a pack of 60 pens from staples for 0.12 each for this recycle. Not free but the 1k points is still worth it if it renews every month.

Staples ink recycling program is gone.

Although in the past they continues increasing the ink purchase amount, from $0 to $50 for every 180 days, you can still earn $20 - $40 per month, which is $2 per ink.

But now, they only offer 100 points per ink, which equals to $0.5 per ink.

OD is still the same and holding steady, although the sales on free a/r on batteries have been sporadic.

I wonder if putting Scotch tape on both ends would fulfill that requirement. I can understand the safety concern of that.

I read that the ink rewards are 100 points per ink cartridge, so 10/month is 1000 points, 200 points = $1, so thats $5/month. Where do you see it is cut in half to $20?

That is the base offering for ink now (cut to 1/4th) but without a purchase requirement like before. Some people have a higher offer with more inks and more points per ink cart.

Yes, I'm a plus member and each recycled ink cartridge is shown as $400 points.

I assume you mean to say 400 points per cartridge, not $400.

Copied my post another Staples discussion.

The new program is LIVE today.

My account had no active rewards. My December rewards were already spent. I have pending $40 ink + $5 tech + $20 promotional coupon from January. Chatted with CSR this morning. $65 in rewards were issued today but will not appear until 2/08. (I have since received them). I have already recycled for February and was told that $45 in rewards will be issued in March. Said the rewards will automatically be available in the system when checking out in-store or online. Hoping for the best.

Appears that there is no longer a purchase requirement to recycle inks. That's a win!
I am a Plus member and my account shows eligible to recycle 20 inks per month.
Plus members will receive 400 points for each ink recycled.
I believe the standard is 10 inks for 100 points each for non-plus members.
Looks like tech recycle has ended. Currently must activate the following offer. 1,000 points when you recycle tech, batteries and more ($5 value). Limit 1 eligible item. Expires 3/02/24.
Points never expire if active member. (Points don't expire so long as your Easy Rewards member account is active. For an account to remain active, a member must earn or redeem at least one point in an 18-month period.)

Points are valued at $0.005 (1/2 cent). 400 x .005 = $2 same as current reward.

5,000 points = $25,
10,000 points = $50,
20,000 points = $100

Existing Staples Rewards will have their expiration dates extended. Email from Staples.
Quote :
We appreciate your patience as we transition into the new Easy Rewards™ program and, as a token of our thanks, we've extended the expiration date on your earned rewards from the Staples Rewards® program.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Existing Plus members will continue to receive 400 points x 20 inks because that was the promised benefit when you PAID for the membership. They can not change that benefit mid membership. Premier members did not buy that membership and the terms can be changed easily. My lingering question is if they will allow new Plus members or renewed Plus members to receive the 400 point x 20 ink benefit? I do not believe so because of the no ink purchase requirement and no expiration of points.

Quote from tabletserviceonly :
I actually paid the $49 to purchase it and my account now show enrolled but still only 10 inks for 100 points each. I'm going to wait a few more days to see if anything changes, if not, I'd just request for a refund.
Update. New Plus members will NOT get the 20 ink benefit. Safe to assume that benefit will end for existing Plus members at renewal time. My next renewal is September.

Quote from tabletserviceonly :
It still shows only 10. I think I'm going to just ask for a refund.

The original FAQ said that Staples plus was ending sometime in February. Nothing was mentioned about pro rata refunds. The ability to choose 5 items at a discount has gone away ( I believe this was stated in a separate FAQ) as has the lower check out price on selected items.l purchased in store. I'm skeptical that the ability to recycle 20 cartridges a month at the old rate will remain. Did you get this info from Staples?
