I'm a <former> fan of the HOKA brand. I purchased my first HOKA shoe in March 2015. It so happens it was a pair of Cliftons. I would go on to buy about 15 pairs of various HOKA shoes from 2015 to 2023. Bondi, Clifton, Gaviota, Mafate, ect. I even had a pair of the Mach X. My most recent purchase was the Mach 5 which I got last summer. The outsoles the HOKA shoes I have worn are simply not durable. As you noticed some HOKA models have a lot of exposed midsole foam on the bottom of the shoe. But the outsole is not my main concern with HOKA. It's the midsole. Many HOKA models, even expensive ones, still use EVA foam. This foam does not last very long when used for running. Maybe a 100 miles and it's shot. For casual use, maybe work too, EVA is fine.

Whenever I buy an EVA shoe with the intention of using it for running it ends up being a waste of money. The midsole never makes it to 100 kilometers, much less miles. Doesn't matter what brand the shoe is. EVA just sucks for running.
Glad this deal is helpful. Have a wonderful weekend! Wave
Don't buy to run in. Only casual use. EVA foam is garbage.

Very comfortable shoes, but these soles shred so quickly. I had a pair and would not recommend except for very light use.

How do these compare to the bondi 8 for running/light jogging?
Bondi 8 is a much more plush cushioning and much more stable platform for running and light jogging and is a very highly popular Hoka running shoe for both comfort and durability; their are even some youtube video's that show what brand name running shoes look like when cut apart down the middle halfway; to say the least the cushioning on the Bondi is quite substantial which makes it one of the most highly cushioned and shock absorbant sole trail running shoes that one can buy on the market that is so ultra durable and comfortable stable ride for a trail running shoe.

I ran two full marathons including multiple LSD with Mach 5. About 350 miles on them, still going strong. I agree with Rincon. It lost cushion and bouncy around 200miles

I can see that. The ProFly+ midsole core in the Mach 5 is dramatically better than the crap HOKA used in the Mach 4. So far I have only ran in the Mach 5 a few times. Might have 60 miles on them. The ProFly+ is showing no signs of packing out. There's no creases whatsoever. Amazing for an EVA midsole.

Contrast this with my experience with the Mach 4. The midsole developed deep creases after the very first run and lost its bounce after the third run. That aggravated me. I got the Mach 4 for a steep discount to the MSRP but I still feel cheated.

I'm currently nursing an injury but when I get back to running I plan to use the Mach 5 more often. However, I'm fully committed to plated superfoam shoes. I don't think I will bother purchasing another EVA shoe ever again. Unless there's a really HUGE discount or sale it just doesn't make sense imo to buy EVA shoes.

For running I mainly use Saucony Endorphin Speeds. Both version 2 and 3. V3 has a better upper and a more stable heel. Slightly better traction too. I also use the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. Has a decent midsole with a very grippy outsole. I also have a pair of Saucony Rifts for trail running. These are really nice. Excellent midsole and a very durable outsole. Upper is a little weird in design but hasn't caused me any problems.
