Most states you can file your taxes free online. Intuit uses your money to lie to the government then lobby to keep the process complex and prevent the IRS from giving everyone a free tool when they got caught.

Wrong. Most states do not let you file for free online. There are only a few states that allow you a free online filing of your taxes.

You do not need premium. Take it from me. I know what I'm talking about. I use Deluxe every year. You do not need premium.

This is for digital download of their sofrware to win/mac, right? (Or physical copy of disk in your second grouping)

I usually use their *online* Premier version, unfortunately....but this would save about half so tempting.

Thanks!

If you live in nyc, do you still have to buy the state e file from turbotax if you want to file with them?

What's the difference between this and filling on their site,? Typically, we use the premium bundle online as we own a small business. How does this compare to the Home+Business software?

I hear you cannot share with family members anymore and install on multiple devices to file. Is the a work around for this restriction?

It should be practically identical to the online/website version(s). Here [media-amazon.com] is a comparison chart from Amazon's product listing Smilie

This is not entirely true. You can still share with family members. But now you have to create an intuit account when you install the software to activate it. You then need to share this account's credentials with your family members when they install the software on their computers. I believe the install limit is still 5 computers, but don't quote me on that because i've only needed to install on 3 computers.

The download version is quite different from the online. Better, quite frankly. For starters all the download versions give you access to all forms, so there's no reason for anyone to buy more than Deluxe download.

So you're saying the deluxe version will give access to these two forms the premier version mentioned? 1)Extra help for stocks & investments 2)Guidance for rental property income & expenses

Extra help and guidance is just that. Help and guidance for completing your return. The forms that are used to file with the IRS are included in all the download/disc versions. Unlike the online version, where you need to buy the upgraded product to access the other forms.

Desktop version is much better. The online version is totally archaic and very cumbersome.

Yes, you still need to buy the version with state otherwise you won't get any help filling it out the state forms. However since NY State has free e-filing you don't have to pay extra to efile like in some other states
