Appreciate the post but the math doesn't work out. I considered snagging the ratchet, but it works out to 50.67 with the hack. Returning or not picking up the extra battery gets you 18.33 back.
Still thinking about doing it and getting the ratchet for 50 bucks. I already have the screwdriver, and a 18v ratchet but it's to big with battery for most things
Also seems they make it so you need to pick up both, or ship both. Can't pick different options anymore.
You're probably better off just keeping the battery if you plan to invest in this system of tools. Both items also have to be linked together for pickup or delivery. You can't just do one item for pickup and the other delivery or it won't let you checkout. Only a hack for people who want to waste their time running back and forth to Home Depot over a $16 battery that they would probably be better off holding on to as backup.

I wanted the rachet also for the OP price. Also the military 10% does not seem to work on this deal. Bummmer, will probably wait for a better sale as been $50 earlier.

Took me seconds to checkout with the hack as the original poster clearly explained....and yes it is a hack....what do you think you are doing wrong 🤔
pro tip: it is called a hack because it is a NET total price.
take your rachet for example. you want it for $33.
you can not buy it today for a net of $33 but rather $50.
yes you are correct you can not deliver one and pick up one.
HOWEVER.....you can pick up BOTH at DIFFERENT stores OR have the main shipped and one picked up.
set pick up for the rachet at store A which you frequent.
set pickup for the extra battery 300 miles away at another store.
you will be credited for the extra battery when you fail to pick it up a week later.
thus net of $33.

It's store specific price.
Holland Tunnel store 6845 in NJ has the magnifying glass for $25 or $16 after hack.
Nice catch. I can change store NJ and add to cart for the OP price, but can't have shipped to my location without $25 price increase after I login. Maybe someone can figure a way around this.

While I agree for the most part, technically sometimes you can have them set for different pickup options. Specifically, if the item you want is in stock but battery out of stock, they will let you pick up the item immediately and will ship the battery to the store for pickup. That battery being shipped can be cancelled without having to do a return.

Buy fan with battery get extra battery free. Total cost is prorated across both items. Return extra battery or do not pick up extra battery. Almost all Ryobi buy x get y free deals work this way -- people refer to it as Ryobi "hack". Some people claim this is cheating the system, some do it all the time. Home Depot is fully aware of what is going on.
They do... In fact some managers, if on duty, will not allow employees to do the return because of that. Luckily, I have a couple nearby Home Depots to choose from and have had to drive to a different store for the return.

Home Depot and Ryobi/DeWalt/Ridgid 1000% know how this works, could make the choice not to prorate the discount across products, do it anyways because they'll sell a ton of tools to casual buyers who don't realize there's a deal to be had. Even if you're "stealing" a bare tool at a discount, you're now that much deeper into their system and will buy more next time.
The Home Depot cashier is not making these by hand with their own sweat and blood. They're commodity products sold at a huge markup by a multinational conglomerate. It's absolutely no sweat to say "I would like to return this battery, I don't need it" to someone dealing with customers trying to return lightly used lumber and arguing about "if I can't see the price tag it must be free"
If you need an excuse, which you don't, tell them "my wife ordered this and didn't realize it came with an extra battery. We already have too many, whoops" because quite bluntly - they cannot refuse a return to a customer with an unopened product + receipt, unless you're committing obvious fraud and buying hundreds of units at a time or other foolishness.
