I was highly tempted, but with the above uncertainty… I opted to spend the extra $29. Curious how it pans out for those who bought this.
Walmart Restored has only a 90-day free return (for any reason) and no warranty beyond that.
During checkout, you could add a 2-year warranty for $6 or 3-year for $8, backed by Allstate.
Disclaimer: I don't have prior experience with Walmart Restored and am not sure how much to trust it.
Personally, I bet on the reputation of these Brother printers. They last and last — unless one gets a dud, it'll last a decade. The $6 2-year warranty is 7% of the checkout price. If there's less than 7% chance of failure between 9mo and 2yr, you're better off self-insuring. The $8 3-year warranty is 11% the checkout price. Seems better to run the risk.
I think the same logic applies to the $30 increase for a new one. Unless you care about light cosmetic usage or the packaging experience, better to risk it with the refurb.
