Performance wise, no. The 4080 is definitely better but also much more expensive ($1200+). If you want that kind of performance and can afford it, don't buy the 4080. Buy the 4080 Super instead, which is newer, ever so slightly faster, and definitely cheaper ($1000+).

The 7900 XT is more comparable with the 4070 Ti Super, which is slightly slower but has a better feature set, including much better ray-tracing performance, but retails at $800+.

Here is one 4070 Ti Super review, with a subsequent correction:

At this price I feel like 7900xt is more head-to-head with the 4070 super. Some AIB 4070s are ranging from $630-$680. In that light, I think the 7900xt wins hands down. Even with FSRvDLSS and nvidia's superior RT, the 7900xt is such a brute it can make up for those deficiencies easily.

My comparison was in terms of overall performance, not price. The pricing info was on the side.
