It's back in stock on a main site finally, and for the Black Friday price still. The recently released 100" U76N (which is comparable, but still a step down) previously on sale for $2,000 has gone up to $3,000 on Best Buy and this model has gone up to $3,500. I own the U76N but will be returning it as I've been having an issue with some ocasional artifacts when using HDMI (tried multiple cables).

You no.
But they might find the TV more attractive.
This one. Q80C is $4,000 more, has like 1/16 the dimming zones, isn't as bright, etc. You're paying for the Samsung name with that one mostly. It'll be better in certain aspects but not $4k better.

Have they cured the known banding issues from last years U8H model?
I have a 65" and I can only imagine banding on a 100" screen

I want this TV to replace my 100" projection screen, but I don't think it will fit down my basement stairs!

The regular U8K has the new Pentonic SOC & that was supposed to improve banding issues (assuming you're talking about color gradient/posterization).

I'm not sure if the 100" variant has the Pentonic chip but I believe it should.

IMHO if you're seriously considering spending $3,000 on a TV, You probably don't have a problem spending $4,000.

do we really have rich frugal shoppers here? it just doesn't seem like it fits here.

Hi. That's me. Rich enough to buy what I want within reason. Cheap enough to want a good deal on it so I can buy two.

You don't get / stay rich by recklessly spending too much. IMO, it's a mindset that serves one through almost all statuses, until you get into ultra wealthy territory.

You can still be smart every day, even if you're not struggling financially.
