About this Item:
  • Contains one (1) 10.5 Ounce Bag of Peet's Decaf Major Dickason's Blend Decaffeinated Ground 100% Arabica Coffee
  • Flavor and Roast: Dark Roast Decaf. Flavorful, robust, full-bodied. Major Dickason's Blend epitomizes the rich, flavorful taste of Peet's
  • Brewing Methods: Our ground coffee is perfectly suited to make drip or a pour over in your Chemex. For other brewing methods - espresso, cold brew, or French press - consider our whole bean coffees and grinding at home
  • Decaf Done Differently: Every Peet's decaf is naturally water processed to remove caffeine—not flavor—before meticulous roasting. And by using the same high-quality coffee beans, you get a decaf that tastes as good as the real thing
  • Rich. Complex. Incomparable. Masters of our craft for over 50 years, we hand roast the very best coffees in the world.

Weird packaging size; since when is coffee sold in 10.5 ounces? Typically bags are either 12 or 16 oz. Is this another example of shrinkflation?
Looks like that was an old answer. It's since been updated to:

"In August 2021 Peet's began using the water process to decaffeinate all of our bagged coffee and K-cups in response to customer requests. This is commonly referred to as the "Swiss water process" which is only 1 of the water process companies that we work with. With the water process, coffee beans are soaked in water to remove the caffeine. The beans are then removed from the bath, dried, and ready for roasting, leaving minimal caffeine on the bean."

I don't know why that previous user quoted the older answer.

Thanks for pointing out this Peets promo...it led me to their whole bean offering: 6 bags of the same size..."Big Bang"...with the 35% and 15% S&S, it comes out to about $5.50 a bag...I just hope they aren't an old batch!

I think better to look for C02 method than this, what is you opinion?

From amazon questions

`Thank you for your question. We utilize two processes for decaffeination: the direct contact method and the water process method. Our Decaf House Blend, Decaf French Roast, Decaf Sumatra and Decaf Major Dickason's Blend are processed via the direct contact method. The direct contact method uses methylene chloride, the most selective decaffeinating solvent known, which we believe allows for the fullest flavored, best tasting decaf possible. The beans are steamed, and then the solvent is used to draw out the caffeine, but not the flavor. The beans are then washed, dried and ready for roasting.`

wow, that's concerning; Methylene chloride is used in various industrial processes, in many different industries including paint stripping, pharmaceutical manufacturing, paint remover manufacturing, and metal cleaning and degreasing.
I've been drinking decaf for a while, but just learning about how unhealthy the process is. I think only organic swiss water processed is the way to go

I'm not supposed to drink coffee, so when I do it's decaf, this is the best decaf I have. I bought a bag last week for like $1.50 more. It expires / best buy date of the end of March.
