A PSA about Walmart.com:

If it doesn't allow you to order from your local store, that does NOT mean it's not at the store.

When I'm at my local store, I'll research a Clearanced item online, to include Walmart.com, and I see that it does not allow me to order that item.

I also would not trust BrickSeek, unfortunately :/

Xfinity phased out DOCSIS 3.0 and now requires at least a DOCSIS 3.1 modem.

You can still activate modems that they say don't work. Docsis is a standard, as long as the modem supports a standard that Xfinity still uses then it will work (they haven't booted old docsis 3.0 modems off their network). The key to activating these is you have to tell them it's a newer model otherwise they won't do it, and then give them the Mac and it will activate fine. I've activated a ton of "unsupported" modems this way.

That said I think $30 is a bad deal, you can find these pretty much any day of the week at a thrift store for $6 or less. You may have to take it to the Xfinity store to remove it from the old person's account if it's still attached, they won't do it over the phone but they will do it in the store if you have the modem in hand. This is also pretty much only good for their slowest plan, which in a couple years probably won't even be fast enough for that if they keep upgrading speeds.

Sb6183s are pretty easy to find at thrift stores for under $10 and will be a lot more future proof than this one.

I'm not sure how cox does modem activations, what I posted only applies to Xfinity. Looking at your previous replies on the speed you are paying for, this modem will only do half the speed you pay for, it would not be a good choice for you. Check if Cox supports a sb6183, you can find those used for cheap and it's a very reliable modem that will work fine with the speed you have. ($20 used, $46 new on Amazon, they are under $10 at pretty much any thrift store I have been to)

172 Mbps max download, this doesn't even hit the lowest tier cable speeds in my area. They sell better spec used ones at my local thrift stores for well under $10.

I see. You got me thinking straight.

Walmart has new SB6183 for sub $45 and cox supports it.

It a better deal for my needs compared to the deal from this thread don't you think?

In theory it should work but when cox in my area was phasing out docsis 3.0 devices I think they throttled them to the point they basically didn't work.

This might explain why my speeds are being capped at 50mbps when I was hitting 5x that a few weeks ago… all Comcast will say is upgrade the modem (it's 5 years old probably)

Yep I just used an older 6183 from a few years back recently on a new install. However it doesn't reach the max speed so I had to upgrade to SB8200 but the 6183 worked fine and reliably it just didn't reach the full line speeds for me.
