you are partially correct. It depends on whether or not you need VPN and the login protocol of the cruise line internet. The one I posted works with all protocols including EAP. Even the more expensive ones sometimes dont have EAP. I had the slate model but upgraded first to the Beryl AX model, since on paper that seemed better. But actually using it tells you what the issues were. The Beryl AX didnt have EAP, only worked with an older version of software (with bugs) and it ran hot. Had issues connecting to my VPN and couldnt get VPN to work reliably. So even though it was newer and more expensive and better on paper, it had fewer capabilities, I finally ended up with hte version I posted, had EAP, ran on a more updated firmware, was power efficient and never got hot and was fast enough. It paid for itself many times over on the cruise. (Saved me 2 people x $15/day x 16 days) = $480.) It was worth it spending $90 for certainty vs $20 uncertainty prior to the trip. Yes it was 4x the cost of the $20 model, but if it didnt work, it would have cost me a lot more than the additional money

BTW, I see posts all the time of people that claim model X is better based on specs, but actually never tried it. Wish they would put disclaimers and not be so certain of their claims. (Not talking about your post). Most important for a travel router to me is useability.
These are older obsolete versions. For me, they arent worth the bother despite the low cost. IF you want a travel router, I highly recommend this one:
https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL...R2PX&psc=1

I used it on a recent cruise with it plugged into an Anker phone battery and it worked as a hotspot all over the ship for my family. Worked perfectly. Also used it in VPN mode to connect back to my home network and while slow, worked OK. (It was slow because the ship internet speed was slow. )
One thing I learned from this post is that there are a lot of slickdealsers that go on cruises.

My s20 running stock android 13 can share its wifi connection. Run a nordvpn client and presto, shared and encrypted at 100+mbps
Hi, I cannot find such a settings for my Galaxy S24 Ultra, even in its Developer Mode. When I put it in Flight Mode and Turn On Wifi again to share only wifi (not the cellular data), then only tethering method available is Bluetooth. I also have NordVPN subscription just in case its necessary.

Every Android phone I have owned up until now has been able to share a Wi-Fi connection through hotspot. You just connect to the Wi-Fi and then turn your hotspot on. I still use an old LG G6 that's not even cellular activated to share Wi-Fi connections.

Hopefully Samsung is not going the way of Apple and blocking this now. I haven't used Samsung since they started blocking root back on the S7.

I think I was doing something wrong. I should turn off cellular data to avoid sharing it, but I was putting phone on Flight Mode and then turning on wifi. I'm going to test as soon as I ge a second device available around. Thnx tho

I'm looking at the internet packages that Norwegian (NCL) offers: $29.99/day unlimited, or $39.99/day unlimited, but it includes audio/video streaming. For the $39.99 package, does that imply faster internet access, to support audio/video streaming, or is the speed the same for both packages?

On my s20, wifi sharing over wifi was not enabled by default. To enable:

Pull down from top twice to get quick settings icons. Locate Mobile Hotspot icon or add it if it ain't there already.

Open Mobile Hotspot>>Details>>Configue>>advanced
At the bottom of 'advanced screen', turn on 'wi fi sharing'. Save.

Go back to quick settings (top screen pull down)
Disable Mobile Data. Enable Mobile Hotspot. Now you should have wifi sharing over wifi. Client login setails and wifi security settings are in Mobile Hotspot configuration.

It may warn you that 'data saver' must be off. Search regular phone settings for data saver.

Will I be able to use one of these on a cruise ship without paying extra for Wi-Fi?
I was on princess cruises and was able to connect my laptop to the main wifi and just share the signal with my laptop. I didn't use this router or any other fancy devices.

Thnaks. I am not planning to bring a laptop or a tablet. Thank you for the info. I will probably just pay for one device.

I'm trying to setup my mt3000 to connect to Xfinitywifi, but after setting repeater and connecting to the network, I'm having trouble getting it on the Internet as it requires login (page won't load for me) Those who got it to work, what am I missing?

Login with phone, clone phone's MAC address to the mt3000.
