Apple continues to artificially limit non-pro cpus to force an upgrade to pro if you want multiple external displays. I really like my apple products but the fact that non-pro laptops can't support multiple monitors out of the box like a $300 Windows laptop is asinine.

It's shameful that anyone is selling a laptop with only 8GB of non-upgradable RAM these days. Memory requirements only go up over time, life expectancy for most laptops is at least 3-4 years, and 8GB is already too little. Ina couple years anyone who bought only 8GB (especially on a "Pro" device) is going to be hating life.

Hard to justify when the 8GB, 256GB model is on sale for $1000. At this level we aren't doing the super high end stuff so I'd rather pay a bit more for high end or pay a bunch less $1000 for a laptop that is still very awesome

I don't want to read a 80 page document of memory management. Of course MacOS has memory management, so does Windows and any other OS.
Just tell us why MacOS apps use less RAM than Windows apps.

Either way I'd be tempted to wait for the M3 version unless the need is urgent. The base M3 is quite a healthy upgrade over the M2.

That logic only works for the Air 13. The Air 15 is only .1 lb lighter than the Pro 14. It isn't a light machine at all. Thin? Sure, but I've never understood the people who like "some heft" to their electronics. If I'm buying a portable device I want as little weight on my shoulders or in my pocket as possible.

As in the M-line have better cooling or newer than M1? I know the Intel MBA's had terrible cooling, and some speculated it was intentional to throttle them to get people to buy MBPs. We wanted something portable, we aren't using FCP for professional-grade stuff. I think the Intel MBA might've shut down b/c the 256 gb was too small. We're using double that in the MBP right now, glad we got the 1 TB and not 512 GB.

I can't wrap my head around all this. I haven't gotten a MacBook in a decade. When did all these specs just become so complicated. I absolutely hate it. The prices are all pretty high and I need to do a deep dive to figure out the difference between m1/2/3, when m4 will likely release, and then there's a normal/pro/max version 😂
