Unless you have a habit of visiting sketchy sites or downloading pirated files, Windows Defender works great. It's built in to Windows and it's free. It's light on system resources and you don't have to worry about managing subscriptions.
I work in IT. Norton literally slows your PC down and is worse than Windows Defender.

None of these products will protect you from phishing.
Every year I say I'm going to get rid of Norton, and then every year there's a deal for such little money that I just cave in and re-up for another year.
I guess I'm nervous about windows defender. Will it remove scripts from downloaded files? Does it verify downloaded Exe files are virus free? Does it monitor for sketchy web addresses that a site might launch?

These are all things that I see Norton doing all the time. I have kids and a wife that may not be the savviest web surfers out there...

So they don't sell 1 year 5 devices anymore? Also can we purchase the key and keep it for few months and use it when needed? Thanks

Just use Windows Defender and keep your OS up to date, i.e. turn Windows Update on.

If you install Norton... in about 30 days your computer is going to be so slow it will nearly be unusable.

Yes, I would think so. Just in case it wasn't obvious, you'd install this on devices for the next 15 months. Then after that 15-month period has expired, you'd need to re-install on all the devices again.
Some things in mind:
  1. Renew vs New subscription - This is one of the ways that Norton makes more money. They sell the 1st year subscription for cheap (i.e., $20), but then the annual renewal cost will be much higher (like $50 or $100). If you don't want to pay the higher renewal cost, then you'd buy a new subscription and go through all the setup again (i.e., you may need to reinstall on all computers/devices and add them again to the new subscription plan).
  2. Will you remember in 15 months? - Are you the type of person who will remember that you made this purchase in Feb 2024 when it's May 2025? If not, then you're just wasting your money. If you think you're not going to remember in 15-months' time, then just buy 1 now, and then start hunting (on slickdeals) for your next Norton subscription when your current subscription has a few months remaining.

It looks like we download the software and install on however many clients we bought. How to preserve the license for when our current one runs out?

that is not at all true anymore. that was true about 15+ years ago..

ANYWAY... Norton Premium also includes VPN and cloud backup , so the whole package is WELL worth $19.99

norton's website has a dashboard where you add the license keys to your account.

my experience from the past 3-years is that about 50% of my PC's will automatically notice the new license when I add it to the Norton Dashboard, and the other 50% of my computers will require me to login to Norton 1 time to update the license subscription on each of those PC's.

you do not automatically lose the total protection if a PC does not automatically update the license , but you temporarily lose the new virus definition updates until you login on those PC's and they retrieve the new license key from the Norton Dashboard.

it is very obvious which PC's do not automatically get the new license keys because they will popup messages saying Norton has expired.
You click the popup and follow the instructions to log into your account and then they will pull down the new license key automatically.
