Bought F.E.A.R. Platinum on the last sale. Surprisingly good graphics and enemy AI for its age. Lots of Office Space movie Easter eggs. Note that the F.E.A.R. Extraction Point and F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate expansion packs install with the game but did not install launch icons. At least they did not for me on Windows 11. I had to go into the game folders to find the .exe files and create shortcuts.

The F.E.A.R. DLC's for me added their own launch icons on Steam Deck, which is not normal there. It was super weird because they relied on the main game to work but acted like standalone titles at the same time. Also I had to export my controller profile to a template so I could use it on each DLC because that portion was also treated like a different title. Wasn't handled like a normal DLC.

Obligatory "F.E.A.R. still has best AI in a game to this day" comment.
Amen, the AI will flank you in a heartbeat. Sometimes taking the LONG way to the point you forgot that guy was even there
Side note: tried to play Postal 2 recently...not at all impressed. Game just feels away too out of date. I have played through Postal 2 several times but the last time was probably a decade ago. Postal 1 is still really solid gameplay wise.

I was so beyond disappointed that they removed lean-around-corners in FEAR2 and FEAR3. I was soooo excited to hop into the next game, but then....that.

Highly recommend F.E.A.R! ... any ANYTHING running the Quake/ID engine
F.E.A.R. 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games ever made. Personally, the best way to play 1 is to get it from gog and play it on a 32bit Windows XP machine with nvidia physx and an Eax sound card. Use a crt monitor, too, if you can.
The reason they seem to fight so effectively is because of how well detailed the environments they're designed to fight in are.
I hear that argument a lot and while the level design does have a lot to do with the perceived smartness, it is one of,if not the best in-game AI experiences, which I would argue is the point anyway

Nah, I'll just use my rtx graphics card, sound blaster audio card, and my OLED ultra wide monitor. Oh and really wide soundstage headphones. Can't forget those. 😉

Honestly, the AI in FEAR is just mid.

This is a steal for a reminisced game.
