That demo Craftsman wrench was super gimmicky up close which is likely why it's being clearanced.

A lot of this stuff was on the back clearance wall in the store.
Hey, at least they admit that the best use for a cheap adjustable wrench is as a hammer.
OP here, you can thank SD staff for that... It seems when they move posts to the frontpage they edit them to have a similar appearance. If you click through to the forum post you can see the original subject as "Lowe's In-store Clearance - Craftsman & Irwin Pliers, Wrenches, & Vise-Grips - from $4.52 - YMMV." Additionally, I listed the zip code and another YMMV for good measure.

I've seen this stuff getting cheaper and cheaper at my local Lowes. Looks decent, but I didn't feel the urge to buy. It's just Chinese stuff, and you can get better quality Taiwanese stuff at harbor freight for about the same price when they have a coupon.

Not bad if people need a wrench now, though.

I grabbed a few clearance items a couple weeks back including a Kobalt 'Story Stick' marked 6.24~ but it rang up for pennies. Got some other stuff that rang up a few dollars cheaper than marked. When Lowes purged alot of inventory a few years back (pre-covid) it seems to have encouraged them to push out dead stock and free up shelf space more often. I'm all for it Smilie

You're mad, Irwin makes really great tools for the price. I mean craftsman and irwin can be hit and miss but irwin is definitely more hit than miss. I have a good amount of their stuff with them being one of the best budget tools, like their adj wrench and locking pliers.(Adj wrench I'm a little disappointed in tbh but still mad cheap)

Irwin is OK and so is craftsman. These aren't trash tools. I'm just saying that for a tiny bit more and a coupon, one can get better quality Taiwanese tools from harbor freight.

Now, if these were Channellock and double this price, I'd be all over it.

If the deal is store specific, then please prefix the title with YMMV.

I've learned to act fast on clearance tools at Lowes. Several years ago found some clearance Cresent Brand adjustable wrenches and bought a 6 and 8 inch. Went home, looked them up and when I found out the original price and immediately went back to buy more. Alas, all gone.

Today, found Craftsman 6" adjustable, an 8" adjustable and a 8" quick adjustable.
Total price was $14.08 including tax. That's less than the regular price of any single one of them.

I might use them, might give them away to family or friends.

I keep a small tool bag in the house for quick household tasks and a hammer barely fits. I'm seriously thinking of buying this just to replace it and the adjustable wrench in the bag. Looks perfect for hanging small photos and the like.

To be fair...it says "select stores" which to me means YMMV. It does not say "all stores".

No, I understand what you're saying, I'm saying Irwin is one of the best tools for value generally at their MSRP. Yes, brands have hits and misses so maybe for your experience, the specific HF tools beat Irwin when they are both on sale, I'm not invalidating it. But Irwin locking pliers are great already, and at these clearance prices, I can't see any tool beating it in terms of value that you'll find. Whether or not it's worth it for someone like you to drive to Lowe's to see if it's in stock there is another story. My 2 cents.

What brands do you have in mind? I do like some Tekton and Gearwrench
