that is way too much to spend for that small of an upgrade. wait for zen 5
FYI micro center currently has it at this price too. Plus they are running a 10% back on your entire purchase when you buy a processor and use their credit card in the same transaction 👀

Ehhh, HAS it? I got one about a year ago for $300. It's holding that price surprisingly well considering it has a next-gen replacement. Must be because it's the best possible processor for AM4, so it holds its value like the 4790k did 10 years ago.

Really tempted. Currently have a 5800x and would put that in my daughter's build. Then maybe use her 5600x to make a htpc but definitively unnecessary for me to do

I did basically that same upgrade a while back. If you play games that benefit from the v-cache (driving games, flight sims, VR, etc...), it's worth it. If you don't, it's not. I don't regret doing it one bit.
You might consider selling your 5800x rather than give it to your daughter, as unless she's using productivity apps, she won't see much, if any, improvement in gaming, but you will get more $$ for the 5800x.

My PC I only use for gaming and same with my daughter. Definitely trying to wait at least one more iteration of gpus to upgrade to the new platform. I've been curious about getting into VR but reluctant because of not having space for the movement.

They are really just trying to give this chip away. Every week it gets an even deeper discount.

It rarely goes near $260 new; the $450 msrp hasn't been followed for years and am5 doesn't let it get to $400

But now with 5700x3d it's in a weird place where the clocks are so different for $50 difference

The whole question of which leverages cores or clocks or vcache more

It would be nice to get all 3 which is this product
