NEW RELEASE: Amazon Echo Hub | 8” smart home control panel with Alexa for $144 with Amazon Device Trade-In

Just released today is Amazon's new Echo Hub smart home controller.

Full price is $180, but you can get 20% off if you have an old Amazon device laying around to use for trade-in, making it $144.

I, along with many others, have been waiting for a long time for an affordable and easy way to integrate my smart home devices on to one wall mounted touch screen hub, and this appears to do just that. It doesn't check all my boxes (wish it were a larger screen), but it checks off most of them.

Besides the hub, is this functionally different from a Fire tablet in Show mode?

No, this is a dedicated smart home hub, so it does not have the same features as a tablet or echo show. The Echo Hub does far more for Smart Home functionality than a Fire Tablet or Echo Show.

Had to rid of my Echo Show because it was infested with ads for Amazon products. You would disable one category and they would activate another a month later. I can't imagine mounting a big version on the wall in a main area of my house. It would be like having a tiny amazon billboard.

This isn't the Echo Show 15, which you seem to be thinking of. This is a 8" inch contol center for smart home devices, and it doesn't have the ads that come on the Echo Show devices. Personally, I wish the Echo Show 15 was as capable as this Echo Hub is, because I prefer the larger screen. I think a 12" secreen would be ideal, but I'm sure that Amazon will wait until generation 3 or 4 before putting that out. So I have to settle with the 8" screen for now.

Eager to try it out but from what I've read I won't hold my breath... Lol

I almost jumped for the 15 myself when it was on sale for $170, but after reading and watching some of the reviews I decided to hold off because it wasn't quite what I was looking for. It seems that this new hub is what most people was hoping the show 15 would be, with the more expansive smart home functionality. I just wish this new hub had a 15" inch display as well.

They're just intrusive ad-infested mic'd trojan horse screens. I bought a bunch of 5's for the proximity feature so Alexa automation turns on/off my light bulbs when I enter my room but they're completely hit or miss despite me being right in front of the screen. It's only a matter of time before they put Alexa automation behind a subscription fee too. Don't be surprised when Amazon puts ads in this hub before the end of next year with how unprofitable Alexa has been (and this despite them selling our audio data to advertisers)

I love mine. Yes it has ads but if you set it up and log into your other apps and disable as many of the options then it's amazing for what you're getting. Just know all these tech companies aggregate and sell all our data and it's just part of the deal. Even email gets search and we get ads.

Doesn't have the ads ... today. You are naive if you think this won't show ads eventually.

The dollar amount discount shown is only if you trade in a high value item. (Most items such as a Dot or Fire or Show-5 are much less.)
WRONG! Any item you trade in qualifies for the 20% Trade-In Discount (unless you have already used the 20% Echo discount in the past 6 months). You will also receive a gift card for the item you trade in, and each item has a different trade-in value for the gift card. For example, I traded in an old Amazon Cloud Cam (which was just sitting in a drawer) for a $5 gift card PLUS the 20% trade-in discount.

I disabled all the stuff on mine and they have been fine for months. From all the reviews I have seen on these they seem to have nowhere to put ads, that doesn't mean they won't do it somehow one day but so far it seems to be just a screen like you would have for ADT or some other security system. My beef with it is the price, I think it should be about $100.
