Did anyone who opened an AT&T line get hit with a hard credit inquiry? Credit karma and other sites usually alert the user whenever a hard credit pull is done. Thanks.
Service Cancellations within 14 Days. You may call us at 800-331-0500 to cancel wireless service. You are responsible for all applicable fees, prorated access charges, taxes, surcharges, or other charges through the termination date. AT&T will refund your activation fee, if any, if service is terminated within 3 days of activation. The charges for service used on the account before the service termination date may be applied against any down payment.

I didn't get a hard check, according to my Chase Credit Journey
Did you get the ATT email right after placing the order and did you cancel the line right then oor waited till you got the phone?
I ordered off Best Buy, picked up the phone in store an hour later, and cancelled service as soon as I got home before opening the box or sim card. I used AT&T's online chat

Did you transfer your Google Voice Number? How much time did that take?
I'm assuming we have to transfer the Google Voice number and then wait for the port to go through and then cancel the account?
I've heard it can take a few hours to a few days for the number to be ported from Google Voice to AT&T.
So I called in to cancel but it had a passcode that I did not setup. After receiving the phone I called again since the SIM was inactive and the rep informed me that the account was suspended and would auto cancel by billing cycle. I suspect I may need to call back after receiving a bill to have credit adjusted.

I think the default passcode is last 4 digits of SSN. Try to cancel it as soon as possible to avoid any charges for the billing cycle. I don't believe much of what they say about suspended lines. I just got the phone (added a line in an ATT account) and then cancelled the line. They were initially doing it by the end of the cycle. Even now I'm not sure what will come in the next bill and I might still need to call

If you want to do it all online then you need to transfer a number, otherwise you can a new number in store. Anyway, you might want to pick up the phone in store to be within 3 days for the activation fee to be waived.
Anyone got a new number in store for this deal? Will best buy rep activate the phone in store by inserting the SIM? Does the phone get locked to AT&T in that case? Thanks

I have not done it personally so I can't say for sure. But best buy rep keep the phone sealed up, only activates an ATT SIM and give it to you. The phone is unlocked and will rain unlocked even when you insert the ATT SIM

Thank you for the reply. Appreciate it. So then isn't it preferable and cheaper to do the deal in store? It saves us from the number transfer hassle etc. Is there any disadvantage or risk of doing this deal in store? You seem pretty knowledgeable so thought I would ask.

Tried the last four of social too. Wasn't it. I couldn't receive a text code the first time I called because I didn't have the SIM card. Either way I got no service so they can't really charge me for anything. Too bad this is going to be a more annoying hoop to jump through than it should have been. At least the phone is pretty decent as long as you enable the 8gig mode.

Yes it is but people sometime prefer to all things online on their own time so it might be preferable to transfer a number for that.
