Professional audio equipment cost $1000's. This is $130 and it sounds pretty good.

The Play 3 will play louder and has much better stereo separation and frequency response. It has two mid-range drivers, versus one, and a dedicated subwoofer which the Onyx doesn't have. Also three times the power. It's kind of a no brainer.

Going to compare with my Boombox 2's (also paired).
Really loud, but also incredibly clear.
We bring it to the beach and pool all the time, and it handles great.
Just got the Play 3 so we can use dual speakers, and to have a backup.
If you're on the fence, then just get it. HK return policy is pretty slick too.
