UserBenchmark is an instant red flag. They are incredibly biased towards Intel and therefor make sure that AMD CPUs score less than Intel. Use a site like NanoReview or something else to view actual benchmarks. Here's a link: https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-com...en-5-3600x

I remember about two years ago when 5950's were going for $1000 and retailers were selling out. It's crazy how much they've come down in price. Seems like a steal for a 16C/32T ryzen.

My current cpu and I love it but I'm upgrading next zen iteration. Should be a substantial jump for anyone running a zen 1/2 or 8/9th gen Intel. I'll only advise upgrading to this though if you already have an am4 system and could use the 16 cores. If not go zen 4 or wait for zen 5.

Pretty sure you can do what you please.

You have to spec and find your own stuff. Thats part of the fun. Search for pcpartpicker that will help with compatability.

I have one, and have used the following coolers:

Short answer: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 (either regular or SE), Thermalright Frost Spirit V3, Noctua NH-D15. Do NOT use an AMD Wraith Prism, as it can't support the heat generated while the cheap boosts.
  • AMD Wraith Prism – the chip wouldn't meet the advertised boost clock (4.3 GHz) in all-core loads.
  • Noctua NH-D15 – the chip would boost up to 4.8 GHz and stay there indefinitely.
  • Thermalright Frost Spirit V3 – the chip would boost up to 4.75 GHz and stay there indefinitely.
  • Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 – I've not used one of these, but reviews show it performs similarly to the Frost Spirit V3.
  • Note the the Thermalright options are MUCH cheaper than the Noctua, so that's what I'm mentioned those first, above.

gaming isn't the only thing CPUs are used for. the multi core performance has a great advantage for CAD/CAM work, and really helps towards more efficient workflows

i'm on a 2700x at the moment, and a 5950 would be a massive step up, and would really make my CAM work much smoother.

If you have a microcenter around it be best to probably go with the 7700x combo deal for $369. 7700x is on par or better than the 5800x3d for gaming and is as fast with multi core as the 5900x. Plus you then have a upgrade path for atleast 2 more generations.
