Yea works well to clean tires. Its not a shine product but cleans them back to regular flat rubber.

And do not spray WD40 or other oils not made for tire rubber unless you want to damage it.

Isn't it better for the tire to just leave it grimy and oily so it doesn't form cracks?

Reading through the reviews, people mostly get this for white walled tires or tires with white lettering. It has bleach in it, so probably does a good job at that. That said, I'm not going to use a product with bleach on my tires.

My dad swore by this stuff way back in olden days, when whitewall tires were a thing. idk what the point is using this on blackwall tires.

No bleach, sodium hypochlorite, in it.

I'm worthless when it comes to chemistry, but Google says:

"Sodium hypochlorite, commonly known in a dilute solution as bleach, is an alkaline inorganic chemical compound with the formula NaOCl, consisting of a sodium cation and a hypochlorite anion. It may also be viewed as the sodium salt of hypochlorous acid. The anhydrous compound is unstable and may decompose explosively."

Another search shows this:

"Common types of failure when rubber is exposed to sodium hypochlorite include swelling, hardening, and cracking, as well as discoloration, corrosion, and loss of flexibility. In severe cases, the rubber may be completely degraded when exposed to the chemical."

I agree, but as I said this does NOT contain sodium hypochlorite in it. aka Bleach.

I've used this for many decades and never seen it damage tires or even wheels. Does clean tires really well, esp if you do this before adding any shine product.

I misunderstood you. I thought you said it didn't have bleach but instead sodium hydrochlorite.

Sorry if I was not clear. Yea bleach is the commercial name of sodium hypochlorite. Something not in this product.

But yea I agree, please do not use bleach/sodium hypochlorite on tires. But Black Magic tire cleaner is good stuff. Smilie

I've been using this product for decades. As others have stated, this does not provide any shine...but rather makes the tire essentially look like the original finish.

For those worried about tire degradation...and still wishing to make their tires look like new...try applications of 303 Aerospace Protectant, after cleaning/brushing with this product. I have many tires well over 30 years old, that via using this product + 303 still look like new...even though likely not roadworthy.
