Buyers should be aware that the JBL specs on this series of products are marketing driven at +/-6dB which is a much larger tolerance than other manufacturers that report "Flat" specs as +/3dB.
These are arguably closer to being the next gen of the old studio 5xx series that were very popular here at sale prices. Much nicer to look at, better center channel, addressing most of the weak points in that lineup but with a huge price increase made even more painful by how much the 5xx kits were discounted.
These prices on the towers make them worth considering, but they're still awfully expensive vs. the deals we got on the 5xx series offerings. And once you start talking about ~$2500 for front lcr… there's a ton of great options.
Don't get me wrong… these are GREAT prices on these, but they don't stand out vs. the competition, the sale prices just make them competitive vs. overpriced imho. Still a great find and a very nice deal.
I ordered these (HDI-3800s). Despite saying they hadn't shipped yet, I received them today. Coming from the JBL 580 Studio speakers, I was hoping they'd be an improvement. Even with a great deal, they were 3x the price I paid for the studios, so they had better be an improvement. They certainly are. These are next level. I'm powering them with my exact same setup, a Marantz SR5012 receiver and that's it. I really liked the 580s, but these are so much better in a way I can't describe, they just fill my room better. I find myself listening to stupid jazz (and I hate jazz) but these just sound so good with them. My next step is to get a dedicated amp to get these powered in the 200w-300w range which my Marantz can't currently do. Spending 2K on speakers is a decent amount of $$$ for me, but so far it's been totally worth it.

It looks like it has a different tweeter than the 500 and 600 series. Does anyone have any of these and can verify if it timbre matches well? I want to upgrade my center channel from a 520c to match with my 590s better.

The compression driver is different, but the same series. I'd be with it matching, but I don't know if your ears would agree. It would be darn close, though.

Buyers should be aware that these speakers sound excellent. I have the 3600s.
Holy hell this is a fantastic deal. It's one of those things that in the normal MSRP price range these would be a B to B+ buy, something the vast majority of people would be happy with, but perhaps not the first choice. At a 60% discount it's absolutely a steal. Buy and ask forgiveness later IMO.

Total thumbs up IMO
Should I replace my HDI-3600s with the 3800s? Has anyone listened to them both?
Id imagine few have and I'd imagine that the upgrade be so incremental as to not be worth the (even highly discounted) expense. Unless you re-purposed the 3600s as surrounds and used the 3800s as your L/R

Several of these have been measured in full by Erin's and ASR's Klippel NFS.
No need to wonder.
Superb speakers, though overpriced at full $ like most hifi. For these prices all is good.
