Thought this was a locking pin, it isn't. Only allows you not to deal with the hairpin safety pins.

Per product page on Masterlock, it's rated to Class IV. Should be good for nearly anything being bumper towed.

I've found locking a loop of the safety chains to the reciever to be much easier than using a locking reciever pin.

Unless you're talking about leaving the ball mount in the receiver when you're not towing, in which case, my shins hate you.

I hate those hair pins. Got a few bloody knuckles to prove it.

I actually just lost the hair pin for mine. It would be nice to have a captive fastener like this one to not have to worry about it again in the future.

Unfortunately the description says it's good for 2" receivers and I have a 2.5" receiver.

There are many good reasons to want to leave some type of a mount attached long term where locking pin is the practical solution:
- you keep a bike rack, flat rack, or something similar on the car
- you tow frequently
- you prefer the next person that rear ends you to do less damage to your rear bumper Wink

I do think this product is poorly named at best and falsely advertised at worst. A lock pin should have a lock on it.

Frequently as in daily yes. Weekly, take that shit out. In my state, NY, they can ticket you for having one in while not towing something. Therefore if someone crashes into you with it in, you be liable for all damages caused by that ball.

None of these justify the downsides of leaving your hitch installed. Frankly, it should be illegal. It basically bypasses safety measures built into the design of the car's bumper, and transfer more of the impact energy directly into the frame. Bumpers are mandatory for a reason and leaving your hitch installed is selfish and dangerous.
