This is an item where I would go with a brand name unless someone tests the material to ensure no microplastics and leaching.

Our family uses this Syntus brand and prefer to the one sold at Costco. Not sure how it compares to food saver, but it works really well especially for the price!

If you're most worried about microplastic leachate, it doesn't matter the brand of the plastic bag. It's just from plastics in general, dependent on the type of plastic (I imagine "brand name" and generic bags are exactly the same type). Maybe non-plastic alternatives exist somewhere, but I don't personally know any at the moment.

If it's plastic, there will be microplastics. If you want to start away from micro plastic then I'd recommend staying away from this and anything else that has plastic lining. because scientist are finding more microplastics in places once thought there were none.

If you are worried about microplastics, use Mason Canning Jars. You can freeze them. Not as well as bags but you could always seal the jar with a bag

I agree with you, and I'm not sure I believe everything the "brand name" claims makes them better.

The Costco combo for $45 works out to $0.003246 per square inch.
This deal works out to $0.003125 per square inch.

If you have a preference for the bags included in the coscto brand, or have a need for the 11 inch rolls specifically also that may work out better for you. The cost is very very similar overall though.

For me 1 quart bags are ideal. I like to have a roll handy for larger items, but the majority of my items I portion to fit 1 quart bags so this saves me a lot of time.

edit: if you were talking about the costco store brand, then the cost of that deal is $0.00132 per square inch.

this is one of the products that i won't buy from amazon due to that there are too many counterfeits on amazon. i will just buy them from costco when they are on sale.

I buy random brands all the time, they are all the exact same thing, not a single one is safer than another, just marketing gimmicks and uninformed consumers.

As pointed out by jester you want to eliminate all microplastics, than use mason canning jars, and not a bad idea to than seal the jar in plastic.
