now i get this one, and what you said i read it, you need dig deep i guess , i bought one kit for 45 and maybe happen what you mention, theres a good ones that refill?
use same canon toners and they refill those, kits are like $120
if those fail, maybe i give a try to the ones of 120, also i dont update firmware. sorry for the bad english if.
I have this printer and it works horribly with Apple as well. I have to keep reinstalling the software for it on my iMacs.
Most of the times when I try to print something now with PC, I get a low paper error message where nothing prints and I have to go open and close the paper tray.
This printer is a total PITA

TLDR - Wish I got a brother color laser in 2019 even if was $75 more since now I'd have it without headaches.
For the price I paid, and even now with inflation price maybe this canon still ok deal? Inkjets are worse deal for most people even before HP smart ink tricks
- Zero issues with starter toner.
- Wired to network switch with static IP address. I've also done this to avoid issues when waking from sleep or not using months and computer can't find it. Wireless printing from phones Chromebooks windows computers. No Mac's at home but should be same.
- LD generic toner black started making dot after few thousand pages. Annoying but subtle. Used to be good brand.
- currently using office world generic but LD colors not out yet. Zero issues
- even with stock color toner my HP inket is better color than this canon even for business documents.
- brother laser was always better in the past but been years since able to order a deal on those. Never on sale and if refurbished goes so quick.
No longer available but I got OfficeJet Pro 9025e refurbished from Best buy for $98 been using $30 generic ink since December. It's in my classroom and laser at home. I setup manually to WiFi and manually to iPhones MacBook Windows didn't agree to HP software or free 6 months ink... where you must pay to even copy Scan etc print and scan over WiFi but only basic software not the full HP crap that might update firmware and brick my printer. Only used starter ink to setup and then generic XL ink. Printing great for photos and worksheets etc. Hate HP but so far this experiment has made my classroom workflow better
