WiFi 6E is not the huge upgrade that many people consider it to be. It will make no difference unless (1) your devices support it, which is still somewhat uncommon and, more importantly, (2) you are extremely close to the router. Many/most people do not find much of a benefit from having 6E. WiFi 7 will bring a much bigger boost in performance, but of course will also require device support.

People may have different ideas for what they consider obsolete. this is a WiFi 6 router with some of the best performance and stability on the market, as a few other people have mentioned. For the majority of people, this is a really solid option at a good price, I wouldn't dismiss it just for some vague notion of obsolescence. It will last for a long time with good, and stable, performance.

Just bought the RT-AX88U pro. I will only buy Asus routers going forward. Highly recommend either one.

I have this router. It's probably one of the best purchases I've made over the past couple of years. I consistently pull the same speeds over WiFi that I pull on a wired connection. I use the Merlin software on it. Update it maybe once or twice a year. Other than that, no maintenance necessary. It just works flawlessly.

I have this router (Zaki edition). Great for digital nomads. Installed OpenVpn server on it. You can technically work anyplace in world and connect your work from your home IP.

I'm still running some older 802.11n routers with one main and two access points. We don't have a huge house, but it is two stories. Desktop PCs, gaming systems, Roku are all on wired connections.

How much difference will this make for wireless devices if I'm only getting 300Mb service? Will it cover two stories well? I'm not sure if this is worth the upgrade for phones and a couple smart bulbs and switches. But better coverage could be very useful, as those smart devices often drop connections.

Same. I also prefer Merlin's firmware.

Most newer electronics do.
Both PS5 and Xbox Series X, and most smartphones/tablets/laptops newer than 2019 or so all support Wifi 6.
Features they use are typically higher speeds (subject to your internet connection of course), and also better encryption (uses the newer WPA3 standard rather than WPA2 from Wifi 5.)

This is fairly widely accepted as the best router at this price point.

There is no doubt that this has been one of the highly rated routers over the past couple of years. However, let's acknowledge that it is now technically obsolete due to the lack of WiFi 6E. While it can still work for many years to come, if you're in the market for a new router, why opt for an obsolete model? It's akin to purchasing a brand new car manufactured 10 years ago.

Is it possible to wire an Asus node to this router and broadcast the signal farther?
