Pretty good performance for the price here. But keep in mind that this is a 335W rated GPU. You will need a beefy power supply and you will feel this in your power bill. As an alternative I would recommend looking at the newly released (outside of China) RX 7900 GRE. 5%-10% less performance but very close for $550 and draws only 260W max.

I completely agree, and with the launch of the GRE, we might see some price drops on the 7800xt and possibly the rest of that 7000 series if one is willing to wait for some price reconcialtion.

Absolutely. I would jump at the 7800 XT when the price is right.

They already announced they are lowering the price of the 7700 XT to $419, I imagine the 7800 XT will get a price drop too, might go from $499 to maybe $479.

No point in buying a 6950XT when the 7900GRE just released. Regardless of what people say, they're about equal in performance. 7900GRE beats 6950XT in some games, while consuming less power. No point in buying a 7800XT when the 6800XT beats it in some games. If you're looking for ray tracing, these cards are not for you. 4070 Super is the minimum for ray tracing.

I'd say the 7900GRE would be a better option. Digital Foundry just did a review, it's worth a watch!

If you can wait till 3rd-4th quarter '24...as posted by graphically challenged the 8800XT will be 40% faster than the 7800XT at the same msrp of $499 and 4th Q the 8700XT will be 15% faster than the 7800XT at $399.

It has been about that long ago that I got my 5700 for $300 about 4 months after launch. Still going strong for the large backlog of games I have for 1080p

If that holds true it would most definitely be worth holding out for the new models. I'm still rocking an RX 6650 XT which has been a great card, but I want my next step up to be a big one.

7900 GRE is probably wiser

Newegg also has the 7800xt for $509.

https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-r...6814202437

the 6950xt is like ~5% faster, but the 7800xt has lower TDP and some newer features (AV1 encoding)

I think the 6950xt would need to drop to like $500 to be a better buy
