I don't know about you guys but out here in Cali a dozen original is now $18.99, with this deal it is easier to swallow, but you gotta be insane to spend this much on a box of supposed to be cheap donuts, used to be $8.99.

$18.99 for one dozen glazed donuts is crazy. $0.99 per donut should be the max.

I will forever be a Krispy Kreme loyalist. I already was prior, but they hooked us up with five dozen donuts delivered to the hospital when we had our first born on leap day 2020! We shared with all the staff and had plenty for us!

In case you care, Winco sells donuts that are (slightly better in my opinion) extremely similar to KK, $3 for a dozen. Slightly less nauseatingly sweet and have some body to them and are not 99% air 1% dough like KK. Don't remember the brand, not Winco's own. They may be "Bakery Fresh Goodness" but don't quote me on that. They may be sold at other stores too.

Ever since I discovered them I don't even bother with KK unless I want the ones with fillings. But for regular donuts you may not even tell the difference in a blind test. Except that KK donuts are extremely small, I think you can squish and roll them into a peanut MM sized ball. They're all just air puffed up to crazy extremes.

That's just the price of freedom and capitalism.

Back in the year 2000 we didn't have a KK in our city. Folks would bring back KK original glazed from the bigger cities as special treats to pass out. Their stock was pretty hot and in the news. Our mid-size city finally got a KK locations and traffic was crazy for weeks. We then got a second location on the other side of the city.

Well, seems like things quickly changed around 2004-2005 or with the great recession of 2008. One KK closed and the remaining location isn't THAT busy anymore. We're a low cost state, and a dozen original glazed is $14.99 in the website.

Not saying Walmart glazed donuts are the same quality, but a dozen Walmart glazed is still $6.97.

Anyone know what the markup is for glazed donuts for just the ingredients (ignoring overhead and labor cost)
Store pricing is roughly 15 cents/dozen for ingredients
Source: my brother was a manager at a KK and he was frequently ordering ingredients (prices listed on order sheet)

Wait โ€”so you have to buy a dozen doughnuts at regular price to get another dozen at this price. That means you have to buy TWO DOZEN doughnuts to get this deal. How many calories in fat is that? And doughnuts get stale in a day -or two at the most. So unless you are buying this for a workplace with a large number of workers this really is a deal to die for!

It's only 3 donuts for your birthday, this year!
Yeah the change sucked. I think it started mid year before my birthday in August. I usually share my donuts with co-workers, but ate the three for breakfast last year.

Publicly traded company, so being profitable is not enough they need to be more profitable every quarter. They went publicly during the pandemic riding the record profits they had during the first year of lockdown.
But not only did the price double they also eliminated all the great deals they used to have when you bought a single dozen which most people went for. I personally used to always get their 7.99 specialty dozen which was like twice a month or so, but now the deals are for 2 dozen, it's just too much and for a normal household means the donuts will get stale.
The other thing is they are now the same price or higher than the local specialty donut shops that are way better quality, so even less reason to stop at Krispy Kreme.

So to summarize, greed ruined another great company. Their biggest draw was cheap and hot donuts, and they moved away from that.

I feel like when KK started to expand in previous years, that's when the Atkin's low carb craze started. That definitely didn't help KK.

Walmart donuts are so bad I wouldn't eat them if they were free. If I'm going to eat empty calories and overload on sugar, I at least want to enjoy it.

I used to do BOGO dozens, ask for half size boxes, and FREEZE them, then microwave and enjoy - shocking how well it works
