Red switches are quieter than brown, and brown switches are quieter than blue.
Red light is the least likely to harm your ability to see in the dark. Lights on the red end of the color spectrum are less harsh on your eyes in dark environments
This is a good cheap board for professionals (non-gamers). Yes you can turn the backlight off. Yes it comes with spare black space/esc/enter keys.

EDIT: lol I made some tween mad

Good deal. I just don't like the red backlight. I don't know why they did that and didn't stick to white or something.

Love my KeyChron Q6 Pro ($230) fully customizable top of the line. I would have jumped on this for fun if it was wireless. The VIA is the best feature imho for this cheap board with only red lights, north facing, wired and will be hard to see in the dark/low light...but you get what you pay for.

Any reason why this wouldn't be sufficient for a high school gamer?

It's fine for that too. Just get the red switches, not the brown switches.

They're quieter than most other mechanical switches, so a good choice if you want that mechanical feel but don't want to be too obnxious. They're not as quiet as a membrane keyboard, but pretty close.

Tbh it doesn't really even matter, it's all preference between tactile (brown) and linear (red). There's no competitive advantage for gaming between the two. I use a tactile switches similar to browns for both work and gaming.

This is a great keyboard for the money. I keep a brown switch model in my backpack for travel needs.

I have this with red switches and I have no complaints with playing Counter Strike 2.

Thank you ordered it for one of my sons friends that was telling him about how destroyed his keyboard is going to give it to him as a gift for helping us out with some yardwork
