I think that's a pretty good deal for the specs.

Mind you, that the cpu is just a 2 year old 5825u (exactly) with a 7000 series name. Still is plenty fast and power efficient (for 8c/16t), but don't expect the igpu to be as good as the 780m… or even the 680m. This one is still running older Vega graphics.

Mail in Rebate? I haven't seen those since the days of Fry's Electronics. Good price after the rebate. Tempting buy, if it wasn't for the rebate.

MSI/Newegg have had these rebates for a little while. 1 SDer mentioned he was still awaiting a rebate from Newegg (on another product, I'd guess). Yeah, the rebate kills it for me. Still, a good deal for some folks. Repped.

I wonder how long MSI will provide BIOS/Firmware updates for these. Given many of the modern exploits require a BIOS update to fix, these cheap consumer laptops will likely never get patched.

For the same price, you can get a good 2-3 year old "Business" class machine (HP, Dell, Lenovo etc) that will continue to get BIOS patches for vulnerabilities for another 3-5 years.

Exactly, and someone needs to tell MSI that 0.78" is not thin either.

How does a laptop this heavy and thick have such a small battery?

True but do note that a Ryzen CPU is going to be excellent on battery life, in comparison to Intel!

likely part of the cost cutting measure, similar to the more budge 45% NTSC screen that's included

The salt to rub on the wound is the fact that they claim it to be Thin and Light!

That's too bad. It would be a great laptop, if they parred it with a 7700s or something similar.

You have a 30 day return window but you need to mail in the "Cut out and enclose the ORIGINAL UPC barcode label from the product box." in 21 days.
"Mail all of these items to the address noted on the registration form. Submission must be postmarked within 21 days of purchase in order to qualify."

Would you be able to return it once you mailed out the rebate (forgo the rebate)?
