Not too bothered by 8 speed especially with a front derailleur, and rim brakes are totally fine for 99% of the population. To me the only real nonstarter for this bike is the tires, 25c is just too small for the roads at least where I'm at. For a strictly road bike of course it's 'fine' but not only do you sacrifice comfort, wider tires are actually *faster* (up to a point). I am running 700 x 38c right now on my commuter and even for a straight road bike I'd never go less than 28c.
If all you ride is perfectly smooth asphalt (or the streets are maintained and in better condition than mine) this thing would be a perfect starter bike but I have really come to appreciate bigger, more supple tires over time, personally.
this is MUCH better than that kent
These bikes are always on sale FYI. I picked up a road bike from them last year for 200. I put maybe 700 miles on it durning the summer and fall. Do I love it? It isn't top of the line. Was it worth every penny? Absolutely. Sure a more expensive bike will get you a smoother ride, better components, maybe higher top speed. But it's 200 bucks. Good luck making your own even passable bike for that much.

There was a sale on the gravel bike before, at least twice I think. Hopefully it comes around again.

edit: looks like it might be live now

Is this better than the recently posted Walmart bike?

Just need something to ride around with my 5 year old. Should I be looking at a mountain or hybrid instead of a road bike? I don't plan on taking it for any long distance trips… maybe jump the occasional pothole or curb. Also how long does it take to assemble these things?? Leaning towards Walmart as it's included, TIA.

No, this one is better.

If you're 5'11" and this is your first road bike, go with Medium. If experienced, go Large
