Yeah it's really bad for you in high doses. This wouldn't be considered a high dose, but worth to avoid IMO

It is bad, but probably not a lot worse for you than the palm oil it's being used to protect. Silver lining: better than bha/bht? Big Grin

Bottom line: get a cheap $10 popper at home and melt some real butter over it as mentioned upthread. Much better tasting and it's not full of garbage ingredients.

Source: I worked for a company that was one of the largest manufacturers of oil preservatives, and one of our biggest clients was a well known movie theater chain (for their 'buttered' popcorn).

Just trust me when I say you should try to avoid artificial butter products like this. I learned things. Bad things. Big Grin

I've been using a silicone microwave popper, and it surprisingly makes good popcorns.
If you like popcorn, I'd recommend checking it out.
Much cheaper, easy to use, and you can control how much oil and topping to use

I use these occasionally for my kids when we are traveling & staying at a hotel. They used to be regular price for $1 at CVS (of all places). A huge box of 18 or 32 of these is so much cheaper per pack as you say, but the quantity is too much for my use. A good enough S&S filler. On a slightly diff note, Amazon has recently prevented me from changing any S&S to gift card balance for payment. I used to be able to create a S&S order, then go into 'Orders' and change payment to 'gift card balance'. Now that choice doesn't show up anymore, stopped about 3 weeks ago. Is this happening to others, or only to me as a Prime member with an Amazon credit card & thus can be abused?

Very helpful info on Gift Card use - I'm debating redoing Prime, but that non- Gift Card paying is BS. HORRIBLE. So that is getting worse?
(and sounds like having an Amazon card makes it worse)

And now I know about bha/bht :/

To everyone's make your own popcorn suggestion, I actually like to make popcorn on the stove with coconut oil and powdered salt. Coconut oil doesn't burn like butter, smells incredible, the taste is second to none. The kids gobble it up. But nothing's faster than microwave bags when you're lazy.

I will avoid these preservatives, thanks everyone.
