This seems like a slam dunk, pretty much checks all the boxes, except maybe TB4 (but then there's the 40Gbps port).
Kinda surprised this isn't getting more attention. Am I missing something?
Probably the notorious nitro build quality and that the Legions with 4070 have been around this price point or for a bit more.
Regardless of that, this is a good deal.

Nitro 16 does not the poor build of the Nitro 5 series, Acer has redesigned it a lot with improved build quality and better thermals. It is in-fact in the same league of Legion Slim 5 series. Also, apart from Asus, they're the only Company offering USB4 with Ryzen 7000 series CPUs in the current iteration. You can check the review of the chassis and cooling dfrom the below revview. CPU is different, 7735HS but the chassis, GPU and display are same. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Ace...387.0.html
Wondering why the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 with Ryzen 9 and 4070 retails for even less (1850 compared with this at 2087). I was under the impression G14 build quality was better. Currently there's a deal on that for 1400 if the stronger CPU is worth a $200 upgrade.

That Ryzen 9 has exact same cores and cache as this 7840HS. The only difference is it has 200 MHz higher base clock (3.8 vs 4 GHz) and 100 MHz higher single core boost clock (5.1 vs 5.2 GHz) and under same power, R9 7940HS just performs maxium 5% better.
And for information purpose, don't get fooled by Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 and Intel Core i9 an Core i9 when you're dealing with H series Mobile Processors from both the CPU manufacturers. They are essentially the same Processor with same Cores, similar cache with the 9 version having just slightly higher clock speed an in most cases, that matters very less because due to thermal constrains, they can run on those highest speed for a very short time.
It is the HX series from both manufacturers where you will see high performance ifference when going from say an i7 to i9 or Ryzen 7 to Ryzen 9
