Just ordered the Beach Cliff Herring. It was a little cheaper. Is there a significant improvement in this Herring?

The Brunswick Golden Smoked is actually smoked. Beach Cliff and most other kippers are infused with "natural smoke flavoring"

I think the Kipper Style and the Lemon & Cracked Pepper are a few cents more with a slightly larger package size. So I'd say get whatever flavor one prefers - all are slick.

Well you didn't provide a link, so no thank to you, I looked around and found an NIH report and a general spam blog: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11766135/

Both basically conclude, Sodium Hexametaphosphate is not great for you - because in high doses it can really start to harm your organs. Even in small quantities I'd rather not have it in my food. Am I on track here? I find it odd that you didn't share any helpful information in your post.

If you're looking for taste and quality I recommend Season brand. Not cheap but really good. Costco and Sam's has the sardines on sale quite often.

Kipper style = herring that is split in half, salted, and usually smoked.

For the Season brand, I'll note that Amazon's [amazon.com] price is $28 with Subscribe & Save, so not super comparable to this deal at < $12.
