Mileage is much more important to keep track of rather than the age of oil. I wouldn't worry about 8 months or even a year.

That depends on the car and your risk factor. It only costs me $30 to do my oil every 5k miles with fully synthetic.

Not a universal truth. If running DI and a turbo, much better to error on the side of caution and change oil more regularly. The toyota mechanic on youtube says toyota's 10k intervals are too long. He sees stuck rings, blown turbos and oil consumption as a result of following the "owners manual" Oil is cheap engine insurance in my opinion, I use synthetic and change my oil every 5k since I do alot of 15min driveway warm ups (live in WI so it's necessary) and short distance drives.

Need 0W-16 for my RAV4 Hybrid.

Anyone have luck substituting this slightly higher viscosity in a RAV4 Hybrid?
Slightly less economy, but in summer I would use the 20, change back before December

Castrol Edge 0w-20 ended up being a $3 more using S&S, and I went with that oil instead. I don't change my oil as frequently (once every 8 months), and do a lot of short trips so will opt for slighly better protection. Castrol Edge 0w-40 Euro formula for under $20 some years ago as a super slick deal.
Any sources on Euro 0w-40 out there? I need that, or 5w-40 for summer.

I recommend sticking with 0w-16, if you had an emergency and couldn't find 0w-16, toyota recommends using 0w-20 but they want you to go back to 0w-16 as soon as possible. I also recommend changing the oil every 5k miles instead of the 10k , especially if you plan on owning the car for a long time

I put Castrol full synthetic black bottle in my Mazda. Is it safe to keep using the oil in the engine if it's been 18 months and 2,000 miles driven? I drive mostly highway.

If I knew my car and I knew the system wasn't allowing water in, I would risk it for a short amount of time but I would change it when I had the chance. Oil changes are cheap if you are doing it yourself. Engine replacements are not.

Is this for all Toyota hybrids or just his Rav4? I know the 3rd gen Priuss had a lot of head gasket failure. Some say it was due to the EGR becoming restricted. I wonder if it was an oil issue.

What Toyota has a DI and turbo? Aside from the rebadged BMW supra.

This doesn't work well for Toyota hybrid engines, that really should be every 5k unless you never have stop and go traffic in your usage.
