Mileage is much more important to keep track of rather than the age of oil. I wouldn't worry about 8 months or even a year.

That depends on the car and your risk factor. It only costs me $30 to do my oil every 5k miles with fully synthetic.

Not a universal truth. If running DI and a turbo, much better to error on the side of caution and change oil more regularly. The toyota mechanic on youtube says toyota's 10k intervals are too long. He sees stuck rings, blown turbos and oil consumption as a result of following the "owners manual" Oil is cheap engine insurance in my opinion, I use synthetic and change my oil every 5k since I do alot of 15min driveway warm ups (live in WI so it's necessary) and short distance drives.

Castrol Edge 0w-20 ended up being a $3 more using S&S, and I went with that oil instead. I don't change my oil as frequently (once every 8 months), and do a lot of short trips so will opt for slighly better protection. Castrol Edge 0w-40 Euro formula for under $20 some years ago as a super slick deal.

I'm aware of that, which is why I mentioned a lot of short trips - feel more comfortable with more frequent oil changes, especially in DI engines (like Audi TFSI 3.0, known for high compression and temps) - every 6 months or 5K miles. Longer oil changes for Japanese engines which are designed more conservatively - 8 mos to a year with similar driving. I've never sent oil for analysis but don't feel it's necessary with frequent enough changes.

bought 3-pack 0w-20 at $44.08 two years ago and it seems to be a perfect time to buy additional ones.

Need 0W-16 for my RAV4 Hybrid.

Anyone have luck substituting this slightly higher viscosity in a RAV4 Hybrid?

I would get this 0w16 deal at autozone instead, if you have a location near you.
