105 Di2 12 Speed is not low end. It's a $1900 groupset.

Then you know Pinarello is a well regarded maker!
If that's the case maybe showing people example(s) where one can spend a lot less for less weight would be helpful?

Don't know about anyone else but boat anchor paints a pretty awful picture!

I love bike deal discussions. I don't know anything about bikes so I end up getting a lot of previously unknown information. Also, next to oil threads (and a recent thread about SS flasks which turned way more contentious than than it should have) these threads produce some of the most interesting discussions.

This is an awesome deal if you're good with the color and sizing.

I raced juniors, collegiate, and after with several friends going to Europe to be pros. My life has mostly been surrounded by cycling so I'm not coming to this saying 19lbs awful. I'm saying spending $3300 for 19lbs is excessive when you can spend a lot less for less weight. And weight does matter in certain situations.

Disc brakes are ridiculous on a light weight road bike that will see only pavement. Unless (possibly) you ride mainly when it's raining, lol.
Being able to ride in rain is nice, I never ride my rim brake road bike if it's remotely wet after losing braking power after hitting a puddle

Use to be carbon fiber products we're hard to make and costly but nowadays chinese carbon fiber bike are a dime a dozen along with the weaving machines. Why are these prices still sky high? They should be in the hundreds by now. These are more expensive than some motorcycles and cars.

I don't know of any bike in this price range sold in the US that's A LOT less weight, at least not without buying a frameset and then building it yourself if you already have components you can transfer. Maybe a pound or so max, but that's not going to really matter that much if you're just an average cyclist.

A hardcore cyclist or someone looking to ride with pro riders is going to need to spend at least 3x that amount to get the top spec bikes that are in the 6-7kg range.

You're partially right in that there's good enough chinese carbon frames that can compete with some of the top spec manufacturers. The problem is their quality control is crap, so if you buy a chinese carbon bike, sure you can save loads of money, but you'll never know if the frame will snap on you when you're going like 30+mph and hit a bump

Is 105 so good it ends up on $3250 bikes? I know I'm old, but it used to be low end bikes.
105 used to be strictly mechanical. This is 105 Di2, electronic, so that alone makes this a great deal in my mind.

I haven't seen much in the way of actual dangerous frames, but they certainly seem to be hit or miss quality-wise in general. The YouTube channel "Trace Velo" is a good one for anyone interested in what kind of things to look out for when dealing with Chinese bike stuff.

If you want a non-electronic shifting 105 luxury bike brand carbon bike, the Cervelo Caledonia 105 from jenson and backcountry for $2400 the best deal I've seen in a bit (as backcountry often has 10%-12% cash back deals).

Still, if you just want an affordable mid-tier brand carbon race bike, the jenson orbea orca m40 for $1680 (with mechnical tiagra, disc brakes and internal cable routing but 21.5lbs from what I can dig up) is outstanding value as well.

My lynskey weighs 22lbs, best riding bike I've ever owned.
