For the uninformed. I work in IT in healthcare. The test are not going to stop you from getting COVID, they will let you know you have COVID. What you choose to do with this information is up to you and, let's face it, your employer. For us it means working from home for at least the day (for a non-positive result) or working from home for at least the week (for a positive result). We care about our coworkers and have the ability to protect them from getting sick. Which in turn protects them from spreading it to their families and patients.
We are lucky enough to have an employeer that cares about spreading disease and are lucky enough to have the ability to work from home. One of my coworkers is currently working from home because he is sick and I appreciate him for it.

I've been on SD for ages and I never get why people feel the need to argue about stuff like this. If you don't want the test, think it's stupid, whatever, don't sign up for it then. If you want it, great, get it.

tl;dr - chill out with the fighting

If you have a certain Kaiser plan, they give you home test for free. Its 4 boxes of 2pk max a month per person.

Lab lead here.

This is technically incorrect. The CDC isn't calling it a Flu. They are saying that widespread immunity and treatments have improved to sufficiently prevent severe illness. Therefore, the threat has become more comparable to other diseases like the flu. Calling it a "scam" is just trivializing the worldwide culminated efforts that got us to this point.
Even this statement by the CDC ignores all the harm that occurs after the acute phase, at least 5-10% chance of long covid with risks that accumulate with each infection. 30-40% higher chances of stroke and heart attack for at least 3-6 months after an infection. Neurological issues, higher rates of new cancer, diabetes, and more. Yes, vaccination reduces the risks, but only by a modest amount.

Just these last few months, COVID has killed at least 2x more than flu. 2000+ people a week every week since at least early December.

It's nothing like the flu.

I think they've said they should generally be ok with the cold. Summer temps are worse.

For sure. If you are sick with ANYTHING you should stay home from work, doesn't really matter what it is.
Try to tell that to my last employeer, you had to let them know you were going to be sick 4 hours before your previous shift ended. So I would need to inform my boss on Friday before 1 PM that I would be sick on Monday.

Some how this reminded me to add toilet paper to my Sams Club order.
Make sure to order Max for a few months and not years like some people did and were complaining and crying (wiping their tears along with asses) as to why Costco had changed their return policy for TPs ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜œ

last time we had this, it was unexpired of expired product. initially they were like good for 1 year, then they marked it up to 2 years and shipped out bunch that were longer than 1 year. free is free, but i suspect it could be the leftover of the same batch. haha.
Could very well be, but they still work pretty well. My "expired" tests are what stopped me passing Covid on to my wife last November.

There no longer is a common cold. It has been replaced by Covid, and anytime I have a cold, it is covid.
